Pull tabs abrasive

I just bought Rebar Wedge Pull-On Waterproof Work Boots. The pull loops at the top of the boots have extra stitching that is abrasive on my calves. The rest of the boot top is well designed to have smooth edges. The tabs are sewn twice to assemble. Can both ends of the tabs be sewn onto the outside of the boot? This would improve comfort. I don't like wearing tall socks just because the boot is abrasive.

This is my second pair of these boots, they are excellent, waterproof, comfortable. I work road construction and my first pair lasted two years with daily use.
