- A: Carrageenan is widely used in pet foods and human foods such as sauces, cheeses, ice cream, baby foods, meat etc., as it provides good water holding and gelling properties. There are beliefs, unsubstantiated by scientific evidence, that carrageenan is "bad" for pets. However, carrageenan, an extract from edible seaweed, is an approved food additive for safe use as a thickening agent in pet food. It is referenced as an approved ingredient in the Association of American Feed Control Official Publication and the Code of Federal Regulations, 21 CFR 172.620. It should be kept in mind that there are multiple types of carrageenan (kappa, iota and lambda) used for different purposes. Carrageenan often gets confused with the degraded version called polygeenan, which is believed to be associated with potential GI tract issues. We do not use degraded carrageenan (polygeenan). Actually, we have always bought the sensitive coat and occasionally sensitive stomach ones but it appears they aren’t making it anymore. I’m so disappointed. My doodle girl has allergies and this was the brand of kibble the (🏆) breeder raises her dogs on. Unfortunately, 4Health recently rebranded their products, they combined the skin and stomach lines (which I thought was AMAZING) AND lowered the price (yay!!) but now my girl won’t touch it. So, we had to spend forever trying to find something that both worked for her system AND she would eat. I grabbed the last cans of the (original) sensitive line for emergencies and I believe once those are gone, that’s it! 😕

Our almost 17 year old poodle mix has kidney disease. He’s picky and some days doesn’t eat much. This provides good nutrition, protein level, and is our go-to” to entice him to eat and take his meds. It’s his favorite flavor and he digests well. He’s slowed down but still patrols the yard.

Excellent product, came on time, but you need better boxes cause both items, when they put them on porch they both ripped wide open and made it hard for me to get them in the house. I don't know if the guy dropped them on the porch or what but you need better boxes for heavy stuff!

We have been using this for our 4 dogs for years but these 2 cases i got are bad. Im guessing they changed the recipe or something. Its like paste or glue. It is aweful and i dont like it and wont be buying it again. Im disappointed, like i said we've been buying it for years. Its so pasty that its hard to get off the spoon.
