Item Information

Feed birds (not squirrels!) with the Squirrel-X Double Suet Cage Bird Feeder! Smaller birds can easily access the suet inside, while grey squirrels are stopped right in their tracks. The cage also deters larger "bully" birds, leaving plenty of energy-rich suet for friendly birds. The pecan-colored durable steel lid helps keep suet cakes dry, while the steel cage, powder coated in a weather-resistant black finish, protects birds from predators. with a 2 suet cake capacity and included aluminum hanger, the Double Suet Cage Feeder is the ultimate in squirrel-proof suet feeding and your best defense against squirrels.

Stokes Select Squirrel Proof Suet Cage, 38069 is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from NOT starling proof Really nice suet feeder, BUT, was suppose to be starling proof and it is not. They don’t at it as fast, but they can still get to it. There head and beak are long enough to reach the suet. Was disappointing

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stokes Select Squirrel Proof Suet Cage, 38069 I am pleased with the feeder thus far with one exception. We live in an area with gangster birds, also known as starlings. It's fun to watch the squirrels trying to figure out how to gain access to the goodies inside but the starlings, although unable to fit through the openings, are able to poke their heads through the wires and with their long beaks peck away at the suit eventually loosening chunks which drop to the ground below and thus they have eats. The sparrows and finches are slowly discovering how to access the suet so anyone who feeds birds realizes first come the sparrows then come the more desirable specie. . Our chickadees have yet to decide to trust what they see other small birds doing but in time they too will enter and enjoy the suet. As for starling control, a few rounds of .22 birdshot should solve the problem. I have no qualms about destroying and starlings, being a non-native specie they are not protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty and may be humanely destroyed. My next purchase will the the squirrel proof seed feeder by Stokes.

Will this feeder keep Common Starlings from eating the suet?

Asked by: Green2
The openings in the outside cage portion of the feeder are about 1.5” across. I would imagine juvenile starlings could get to the suet – while larger ones likely could not fit. It does tend to deter some of these larger “bully” birds though as they’re not comfortable entering the cage.
