Item Information

Premium Alfalfa Pellets are high density, 1/4 inch pellets of Standlee Premium Western Forage. Alfalfa forage is low in sugar, moderately high in protein, high in calories and digestible fiber.

  • Low in carbohydrates
  • Minimal waste, can be accurately weighed and measured
  • Minimal dust
  • Easy to feed and store
  • Useful as a fertilizer in gardens or flower beds
  • Ingredients: Naturally Sun-Cured Premium Western Alfalfa Forage
Forage is the most important component of a horse's diet and should be fed at a rate of 1.5-2.5% of a horse's body weight. Weigh the amount of forage provided to each horse to ensure you are feeding the proper amount. Feeding some long-stem forage (hay) may help eliminate boredom and prevent stall vices. Horses that have dental problems or for horses that aggressively consume their feed, Standlee Premium Western Forage cubes and pellets are recommended to be fed wet, soaked in water for 30 minutes or until properly softened. Gradually replace existing hay with Standlee Premium Western Forage over a 7-10 day period. Replace existing hay on a 1 to 1 basis with Standlee Premium Western Forage. Never feed moldy or insect infested forage to horses. Always provide free-access to fresh, clean water.

Do these pellets have to be soaked for regular horses with good teeth ? I'm mixing the pellets in with grain to make the feed last longer and add fiber. My horses do not eat fast or gulp grain, they nibble all day

Asked by: Holly2
Thank you for your question. Standlee Premium Western Forage does recommend that the cubes/pellets be soaked for several reasons, but one important reason is that most people are not aware that their horse is prone to choke until it chokes. Thank you

I have a powdered suppliment that's a combination of all my horses needs in it. Can I use this as a way to give my horse her suppliments without the worry of over feeding any ingredients?

Asked by: Cpenny
Thank you for your inquiry. The soaked Alfalfa pellets are a great way to add powdered supplements to your horses diet. Using a small amount of the pellets (up to a pound) isn't going to cause an overfeeding issue. Please let us know if you have further questions.
