Item Information

Standlee Premium Western Forage Premium Alfalfa Grab & Go Compressed Bale are formed by allowing Standlee Premium Western Forage to grow to the proper stage of maturity, cutting the plants, allowing them to sun-cure (dry) to an acceptable moisture level and baling the forage at the optimal time. Standlee Premium Western Forage creates Grab & Go compressed bales of forage from a large 4 ft. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. bale that is put through a press, sliced horizontally, pushed onto a scale, weighed, compressed, banded and then shrink-wrapped. Alfalfa forage is low in sugar, moderately high in protein, high in calories and digestible fiber.

Ingredients:
Alfalfa hay sun-cured.

Feeding Directions:
On average most horses comfortably consume 2% of their body weight in dry forage per day. This equates to 20 lb. of dry forage per day for a 1,000 lb. horse. Standlee recommends that you weigh the amount of forage provided to each horse to ensure you are feeding the proper amount. This is especially important with baled and compressed forage since similar volumes of forage (a flake for example) vary in weight. Standlee also recommends you cut the bands on compressed bales and allow the bale to expand overnight to avoid overfeeding. Feed Standlee Premium Western Baled or Standlee Premium Western Compressed Forage at a minimum rate of 1.5% of body weight. Gradually increase or decrease the amount of forage to maintain desired body condition. Never feed moldy or insect infested forage to horses. Always provide free-access to fresh, clean water. If you have questions, please contact the nutritionists at Standlee Premium Western Forage, or consult with your veterinarian.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Western Forage Premium Alfalfa Saved My Horse I have a horse that has allergies and had to put in on a dry lot. We had just gone through a major flood and he had dropped several hundred pounds. I started feeding him Western Forage Premium Alfalfa along with his feed and started seeing result immediately.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for an emergency Hay was green and stalk was thin. It was quite perfect. However my horses needed to eat twice as much of this hay to maintain their weight.
Date published: 2019-08-20
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mostly dust I've bought Grab 'n Go bales several times, and every time, I think maybe I've just gotten a bad bale. I think I've gathered enough data to give a fair and accurate rating. First let me say that my horses love the taste. That's not an issue. The issue I've had is that the only way I can feed them Standlee's compressed hays is if I make a soup my horses can slurp from a bucket. It's impossible to put this hay in a net or feeder because it's mostly dust. The parts that are not dust are 2-4-inch stems that fall through nets and feeders. In addition to the crumbly hay, I've received molded bales and scalded bales. I would post the pictures I took to accompany this review but the app is malfunctioning and won't allow it. Imagine a mostly empty hay net with short stems and dust all over the ground around it. That's our typical experience with Standlee's Grab 'n Go compressed hay bales.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good food good ride Use this compressed hay as a combination with my other hay for a small tasty treat while standing in the barn. Each horse gets a small flake with hay racks full of grass hay. Also use when trailering for extra energy on the trail. Perfect for these reasons.

I find this product to be extremely dusty. Is there any chance that it is mold?

Asked by: Micco
Thank you for your inquiry. When we manufacture the Compressed and Grab and Go bales, we use a 4’ x 4’ x 8’ bale of forage, run it through a machine that slices it horizontally twice and then pushes it across the scale, compresses it and bands it. In this process the slicing creates fractures, just as you would see when you cut a piece of wood (sawdust). Standlee takes all precautions from having the bales have excessive fracturing, however if a product is left sitting for too long after manufacturing, the moisture content in the product decreases, which can cause more fractures than normal as well. You are welcome to contact us at either 1-800-398-0819 or email Customerservice@standleeforage.com Thank you
