Item Information

Premium Alfalfa/Timothy Pellets are high density, 1/4 inch pellets of Standlee Premium Western Forage. This mix combines two of the most popular forages fed to horses in a blend that is moderate to low in protein and sugar.

Ingredients:

Naturally Sun-Cured Premium Western Alfalfa Forage, Naturally Sun-Cured Premium Western Timothy Grass Forage

Feeding Directions:

On average most horses comfortably consume 2% of their body weight in dry forage per day. This equates to 20 lb. of dry forage per day for a 1000 lb. horse. Standlee recommends that you weigh the amount of forage provided to each horse to ensure you are feeding the proper amount. Standlee also recommends that pelleted and cubed forage not be the sole source of forage since feeding some long-stem forage (hay) may help eliminate boredom and prevent stall vices. Feed Standlee Premium Western Forage at a minimum rate of 1.5% of body weight per day. Gradually replace existing hay with Standlee Premium Western Forage over a 7-10 day period. Replace existing hay on a 1 to 1 basis with Standlee Premium Western Forage. Standlee Premium Western Forage is recommended to be fed wet, soaked in water for 30 minutes or until properly softened, for horses that have dental problems or for horses that aggressively consume their feed. Never feed moldy or insect infested forage to horses. Always provide free-access to fresh, clean water. If you have questions, please contact the nutritionists at Standlee Premium Western Forage, or consult with your veterinarian.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Purina Equine Senior Horse Feed I've had horses for 40 years and have always fed Purina. Now that my horses are seniors I feed them Purina Equine Senior Horse Feed because they maintain a great weight, they're coat is shining, it's easy on teeth and digestion. I can't and won't feed anything else. Thank you Tractor Supply for having Purina Equine Senior at such a great price and always fresh and available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice to Have Lower Protein Options Very glad that Tractor Supply carries both pure timothy and blended pellets; they can be hard to find elsewhere and I won't feed straight alfalfa (at least to my horses with special metabolic needs.) These pellets are good quality and seem to be more palatable/tasty (according to my horses) than the other brand that the store carries. A good way to add bulk and quality forage to their diet when decent hay is scarce.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for older sheep I use this product for feeding my older sheep. For those who still have all of their teeth, they gobble it down dry. For the oldest sheep who have few or no teeth remaining, I soak this down to a mush. This is great for those who are too old to eat grass hay anymore. It keeps their rumens working, and I provides necessary protein.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horse loves Standlee I feed the T/A pellets and cubes and my horse loves them. I find that the cubes soak up/soften much faster than the pellets. Observation: after soaking I've noticed the cubes don't smell like the pellets. I love the smell of the soaked pellets. The cubes not so much. The pellets smell sweeter. How could that be? Both are made from alfalfa and timothy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Took about a quarter of a bag before my girls (goats) decided it was good stuff. They can't get enough now

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these pellets for my goats! I don't have great pasture area, so I feed my goats timothy hay and pellets. These are the best. My goats won't eat the other brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from my old horse looks great and has a easy time consuming these. Pellets soak up warm water quickly and make it easy to eat for a horse that is prone to choke. Thank you.
Date published: 2017-11-21
Rated 3 out of 5 by from hay pellets are small I bought for my elderly horse due to weight issues. The pellets were very small which made it easier for him to chew but I seemed to go through it faster.
Date published: 2017-09-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to feed These pellets help me keep weight on my OTTB. He is an incessant cribber who spends more time cribbing than eating hay. Now I can get him his required forage amounts. I like that they dont require soaking and he loves the taste.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Horse We have a real old Grandpa horse that can't chew grasses or large pellets anymore. The small pellets are perfect for him, it crumbles easy and he likes it. Keeping his weight on and he is healthy and happy. As are we!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NO MORE COLIC Our pony was on horse grain and she would colic a lot. We finally narrowed it down to no grain of any brand for her. She has bad allergies to this day but hasn't coliced at all. I tried mixing 1 bag alpaha and 1 bag timothy and because of poor stock in our store but she picked right up on it and would not finish it. Our mini loves it too.
Date published: 2017-02-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for horses with hay chaff allergies Have my pony on this now because hay makes her cough and she does great on it, my horse even begs for it, so I have to give him a handful. You really cant beat this price either!
Date published: 2015-01-06
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Feed Product! I use this as a feed replacement for my pleasure horses that get 4-6 flakes of T/A daily. They get 1 cup twice a day, as they like to hear something hit the bottom of their feed buckets.
Date published: 2014-10-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff I feed my horse this daily. He gets a bale of hay a day and has pasture, but not much pasture. His grass is usually gone by mid-summer. So, we give this year round to substitute the lack of pasture. He loves it and it keeps his weight on. It also helps us stretch the feed.

What is the sugar and starch content?

Asked by: this is painfull
Thank you for your question. Standlee does not test each batch as it is made, we test our fields, we are required by law to guarantee protein, fat, fiber and moisture, we are not required to guarantee non-structured carbs (WSC & Starch). We can provide you with a 5-year average of what the mineral levels are of the Alfalfa/Timothy Pellets. All values are based on “As Fed Basis”. The estimated NSC% of the Standlee Alfalfa/Timothy Pellets are 10%. Thank you

Can I give this to my Holland Lop rabbit instead of hay?

Asked by: Danielle926
Standlee Premium Western Forage does not recommend that you purchase the Bagged Pellets or Cubes, Compressed or Grab and Go bales for your small animals, as they are graded for livestock. Standlee Premium Western Forage has a small animal line; in which we recommend feeding these products to small animals. JOJO’S BEST Premium Forage can be fed to rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, prairie dogs and other herbivores. Feed JOJO’S BEST Premium Forage along with the vitamin and mineral fortified feed specific to these animals. In essence, the product is all grown the same, however we select and grade each stack according to small animal or livestock.
