Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommend I have a dog walking business and purchased one for my business after walking my son's 120 lb Roti with Kurgo Head Halter. These ease of walking and the comfortableness for the dog is top notch. The quality of the product is like no other I have looked at. I also had one of my client purchase one on my recommendation. They too are so pleased. You will not be disappointed in the head halter

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More comfortable than other head collars My boy really hates any type of head collar. When I walk him on them all he does is constantly rub his head on my leg. With this he spends less time rubbing and seems less irritated by it. It appears to be good quality. My only complaint is that it is extremely easy for the dog to get the piece off their nose. All he has to do is rub his nose on my leg and it's off. If I make it any tighter he won't be able to open his mouth. Luckily I walk him on a double ended leash so even when he gets it off he's still attached to his harness. Overall a good product but always be sure to have it secured to their collar or use a double ended leash.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Plastic piece broke Using new Snout About on Great Dane. Walk began well but when local fenced dog began barking the 115 pound gave one big jerk and plastic broke. Snout About came apart and away when the dog. I do not recommend this product until the piece that so many have given you feedback is fixed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Substantial enough for my mastiff I'd given up on flimsy Gentle Leaders for my Cane Corso. They might work for little dogs, but were entirely out of scale for big guys. When I opened the package, I was delighted to see that Kurgo's Head Halter is strong and comfortable and stays put. I put it on him first time and, although he was a bit puzzled by it, left it on, ate his dinner, and tolerated its presence from the get go. So far, I'm letting him get used to it and haven't tried walking him with it yet. Maybe today!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Difficult Dog Approved! I have tried numerous gentle leaders and none of them have worked for my pitbull. She either claws them off or pulls so hard that they just loosen. The snout-about delivered on everything advertised! Not only is my dog gentle on the leash, she also doesn't try to claw it off. It's super easy to put on, doesn't look menacing, and works like a charm! I am more than pleased with it and is a great price for the quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as described I was having some issues at the dog park where I take my dog. Some of the other people’s dogs would try challenging my dog and sometime nip at him. Long story short, my dog wouldn’t stand for it. I bought the snout strap to prevent my dog from getting the better of these situations. I noticed now that my dog has the snout strap he more laid back, especially when approached or challenged by another dog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cedar's review I bought this a week ago. I used to have a Halti for my large breed (Cedar) and it was time to get a new one. So i am comparing this and the Halti. I ended up buying this hoping it would be more comfortable, since the material is much thicker. After using it for a week, i must say that this is just like the Halti but improved. In my opinion, i feel this will work for my dog who can't help but pull (she tries to walk slow but she ends up pulling just because she is so big)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it. Excellent quality, I'm still training my dog to use it and it looks comfortable, he can drink and eat without struggle. This is the third product I buy and I wouldn't change the brand for anything.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Attractive and comfortable I love this product. I use it in place of a full-face muzzle. My doberman can still eat and drink. I can control how wide she can open her mouth to keep her from harming a smaller dog I have, who picks fights with the doberman. We separate them with gates, but the snout-about provides another level of safety. My husband is a truck driver and takes the doberman with him, so she only has to wear it when she is home. I am very disappointed about that the rubber part which feeds the strap for tightening or loosening does not stay tight--at least once or twice a day I have to check how much she can open her mouth bc sometimes the product loosens. I buy a large, but the medium is too small. Also very disappointing is that the rubber part breaks apart with use. I am now purchasing my third Snout-About. I wish I could find another brand that allows a dog to eat and drink. All in all, this product is comfortable, does not wear away the dog's hair across the nose, and does not have to be tightened so much that it leaves marks across the nose. The webbing is attractive and well made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for behavior, quality could improve I am on my second Snout About Strap. We purchased our first about a year ago and had wonderful success with it. There's a plastic/rubber piece that enables the figure eight strap that unfortunately broke when my dog tried to pull out of the strap recently (he's not always a big fan), and so we had to buy our second. It is a wonderful tool for tough pups, I just wish the rubber was stronger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Working out great so far I have a nippy three year old rescue. This strap allows him to pant but not to open his mouth wide enough to close his mouth around anything or anyone. The color is great, we matched it with our quantum leash and he looks fashionable, not scary with something around his snout. Huge improvement over the usual grooming muzzle especially in appearance. Does still allow barking and taking small treats, but not munching, chewing or biting.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So close to being a great product! On 09/08/15, I bought Kurgo's Snout About Strap for my 95 lbs Boxer/Bullmastiff child. Head halters work best for him, so I was excited to try this one. In addition, I already had other Kurgo products that I love. My boy is leash reactive, which means he can do a lot of pulling and lunging at times. After about 2-3 weeks of use, I noticed that one side of the flexible plastic piece that rests under my dog's mouth was broken/ripped. Although the structure is not fully compromised, if one more side breaks, it will be. I struggled with deciding how to rate this product because even though I loved other aspects of this product, a flaw like this is important BUT ONE THAT CAN EASILY BE REVISED! I hope Kurgo will 1) replace this plastic piece and the loop that the leash gets clipped to with one piece of steel hardware, and 2) add a safety strap that clips to the dog's collar. If these changes were made, this product could stand out against all competing head halters. What did I love about the product? I loved the width and material of the halter because it caused less rubbing. My dog practically never pawed at it (until we got back home from walking) or tried rubbing his face into the back of my knee while walking. Yes, a couple of times he got the strap off his snout, but I most likely had it too loose. I liked that it's reflective. Also, the simple figure 8 design allowed it to fit better on my dog's face. I feel like the figure 8 design would allow for a more customized fit along a wide range of breeds and mixes. My disappointing experience with the Snout About Strap hasn't deterred me from trying more products in the future, including this one again if it gets better. Furthermore, I will remain a Kurgo customer because I have personally experienced wonderful customer service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product but one design flaw I have contacted the company about this design flaw and am very pleased with the quick response I have gotten. I hope they will take a good look at my suggestion. My dog is a very large Staffie mix. He has ripped the rubber square part a couple of times when he has gotten excited, rendering the Snout About useless. I would like to see the square made of something more durable, such as metal. Otherwise, this is a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING!!!!! Just purchased this yesterday for my Aussie, she is 10 months old & despite training classes she gave me a workout on our walks, just came back from a 40 minute walk where I was PROUD to have my girl beside me! Gave lots of praise, she did get out once from it but we put her right back in & continued on...highly recommend this, thank you Kurgo!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from simple & easy to use I believe this should be a great product. I bought a size too big. I went off the collar size but my gal seems to either be a hodini or maybe its just not made for a dog who will use her paws like arms :(. she was out in a matter of 2 mins. And I can get her to keep it on. But only under 100% supervision.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's reflective for nighttime when drivers need to My sister's dog is a Border Collie-Australian Shepard mix. When we walked him he was always pulling and wouldn't listen to commands. When we introduced Snout About to him, we put treats in our hands where the nose part goes to distract him while we put it on. We practiced with him wearing it and would walk with him in the backyard for the first 2 days because he was fighting to get it off but we'd reward him. We wanted to prepare him for walks. Today we took him for a walk and it was AMAZING! No pulling, no aggressive behaviour!

Will this also prevent biting?

Asked by: Bjgibby
The Snout About Strap can help with biting because if it is fit properly it will allow your dog to only be able to open their mouth slightly. The Snout About Strap's best use is as a head collar which can help in preventing undesired behaviors (like biting, lunging, and pulling) by giving a person more control over their dog.

Has anyone switched from the traditional gentle leader to this item? At first my dog did great with the gentle leader but now he's always trying to get it off. I'm hoping that since this is a thicker and padded nose band it would be more comfortable.

Asked by: Bethmd
Hi Bethmd. Yes, we do have customers who have switched to the Snout About Strap after using the Gentle Leader and have found that they and their dogs prefer the Snout About Strap. The main reason is some dogs find the thicker straps to be more comfortable. Please note, that while the straps are indeed thicker and are made of soft nylon, the nose band is not padded on the Snout About Strap.
