Rubbermaid Stock Tank Float Valve, 4248-06 is rated 2.1 out of 5 by 61.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Automatic water tank valve Very happy with this product. This makes number three for me and the oldest being about 10 years old and all three still work great
Date published: 2019-12-30
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Float This float works great and keeps the tank full all the time.
Date published: 2019-12-22
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Serious quality control issues I bought two of theses and both had the float split at its seam in the middle.
Date published: 2019-09-14
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful Threads are not standard size, but even with an adapter for the correct size it still blows out. Rubbermaid owes everyone that bought these a refund. Ended up having to use pvc glue on the adapter. We'll see.
Date published: 2019-08-31
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not perfect This float valve works, but it leaks pretty consistently.
Date published: 2019-08-06
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken After 1 Month It's broken already. I found the tank overflowing yesterday due to the float portion of the valve had come off. It's only been in use for a month.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I stopped using this brand. Don’t know what happened to this product. Been buying them for years. The past 3-4 that I have purchased have been bad. They don’t put out enough water. It takes over an hour to refill my tanks. Stopped using them this summer. I don’t have time to constantly be watching to make sure the takings are full. I switched brands.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Stay away from this junk. The hose coupler blew out even with a pressure regulator on it.
Date published: 2019-06-06
Rated 1 out of 5 by from A poor float I have one of these floats and the threads are such that a garden hose WILL NOT stay connected. It keeps falling out which is totally unacceptable.
Date published: 2019-04-30
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Float in valve poorly designed Bad design on the float itself. It's made of 2 half pieces loosely connected that do not properly seal. I ended up using a plastic welder that I had to permanently bond the pieces and seal it all with marine grade silicone. good as gold. I even went as far as to cut and shape a piece of expanded polystyrene (green/blue foam board) to fit inside the float as an added precaution as the foam itself floats and will not absorb water or contaminate whatever is inside the tank.
Date published: 2019-01-28
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable, breaks easily Thought it would be a good to use this product with the stock tank. WRONG! Need adapters for standard hose. Float itself just fell off. No washer included. Screw and nut rusted after one season. Tank is under cover. Total waste of money. Not quality for the Rubbermaid name. I have 3 tanks, will be replacing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple install. Excellent performance. Bought about a year too late. Better late than never.
Date published: 2018-08-05
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly engineered, surprisingly Luckily, I don't have the water pressure issues so many have talked about. Our tank is gravity fed from a tank up a small hill, so less pressure. However, when we moved the 50 gal tank to clean and ensure level, the float broke in half. Turns out it's made of 2 pieces of plastic loosely snapped together. I have no faith it will hold, as obviously it didn't. You can see the seam in the main website photo. As also mentioned, if anything is connected to it the hose connector covers the left screw. In my case, I had a quick connect adapter there. Seems badly designed overall, and I've filed it under "Read The Reviews Next Time".

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Had issues since day one. The way it is designed where you screw in water hose is a bad connection. If you use tape or any type of thread sealer it will leak elsewhere. If you tighten to much gets even worse. This is a total waste of money!
Date published: 2018-07-03
Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE PRODUCT I have bought 2 of these and both have failed. the actual float takes on water and the neck where you screw the hose on will blow out. Dont waste your money on this junk!!!! HORRIBLE!
Date published: 2018-07-02
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of Junk Don't waste your money. It is poorly made. LEAKS!!!
Date published: 2018-05-21
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst product ever The tolerance on the water connection is terrible. There must be 1/4" of slack in the threads. No matter what they leak.
Date published: 2018-04-23
Rated 1 out of 5 by from bad design i bought mine last year from tsc and the threaded connection is constantly coming loose and water everywhere. bad design need to epoxy connection in when unit is new.
Date published: 2017-12-19
Rated 1 out of 5 by from cant keep hose in this is a great design but will no accept any hose without coming out and flooding the barn
Date published: 2017-12-02
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Piece of garabage I have had one of these plastic Tank Floats and do not recommend it at all, The hose will not stay in the hoses bib, i do not know if a fitted can be epoxied in to save the unit or not, but it is aggravating to have the tank constantly overflow do the hose not sealing also the 1-1/2 inch drain is located in a poor position making it hard to drain, much simpler to just dip the water out. DO NOT GET THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Float Sorry sorry junk plastic will not stay together. leaks water everywhere
Date published: 2017-10-05
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of Junk I should have read the reviews before I bought this. I went to tractor supply to buy the galvanized float valve, but since I am using Rubbermaid tanks I figured I'd give this one a try. It didn't even make it through the night. Checked on it the next morning and the hose had come disconnected and flooded part of my pasture and my pump house. The part where the hose screws in is plastic and it busted. Stick with the galvanized ones or anything other than this one. P.S It wasn't Tractor Supply's fault and I will continue doing business there.
Date published: 2017-09-21
Rated 1 out of 5 by from JUNK We started using these on our farm several years ago and they worked well. However, in the ones purchased over the last 18 months or so the hose doesn't stay attached. I've tried everything, regular hose fittings, brass fitting with sharp threads, plastic fittings, even tried gluing plastic fittings in which works ok until an animal breaks it off and then the float is worthless as you can't get the glued piece out of the float.
Date published: 2017-08-15
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hose Connection Leaks Rubbermaid threaded the garden hose connection too large, so large that household water pressure pushes the hose out of the connection. So Rubbermaid includes a coupling to thread into the tank valve and to the hose. Horses and cattle easily destroy this coupling, and it leaks within days.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE I have gone through two of these along with SEVERAL trips back to TSupply and Hardware store. I have tried Every 3/4" nipple and adaptor both pvc and metal and NONE OF THEM WILL STAY ATTACHED. Do not waist your money and time like my son and I have done.
Date published: 2016-09-21
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not for hose thread. I have noticed the same problem as many have noted. On further inspection I found that the connector is threaded for 3/4" ips. Some newer models are now shipping with an adaptor. You can pick one up in PVC for under a dollar. Or plumb with 3/4" pipe either PVC or galvanized.
Date published: 2016-08-17
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hose threads strip easily Thought this was the answer as it was a Rubbermaid. Worked well for a while then the cattle moved the trough, and the hose connection was stripped and couldn't re-tighten it. Haven't found a good one yet.
Date published: 2016-08-10
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Almost wortless Bought 2 a few months back. The threads where the hose screws in stripped out. Will not make good on my purchase. The Injection mold that makes this needs the cored thread area re-worked.
Date published: 2016-08-04
Rated 1 out of 5 by from hose connector defective and leaks hose connector on the back is soft plastic and was already stripped out when we installed this float on our new rubbermaid trough. would not seal and water sprayed out the back. after seeing reviews online, I'm sorry I purchased this. looks like everyone else has had the same problem.

Rubbermail stock tank float. what size nipple does it take? A standard 3/4" nipple does not fit

Asked by: willybill
According to the manufacturer a 3/4" garden hose does fit. The thread size is 1-11.5 American standard hose coupling thread.

Does this product stay put around the rim of a 5 gallon bucket?

Asked by: martin_95037
The float valve is designed for the Stock Tanks and screws to the top.

Will the product work on a gravity feed system or does it need to be on a pressurized system?

Asked by: Txbowhntr

I like this fill valve a lot, it seems to be durable compared to others. But is it serviceable? It has a simple rubber seal that seals the water, can I replace that seal? where is it avail?? Shame to trash it every time a simple seal fails!

Asked by: kgw51gmc
I'm sorry but we do not sell components for the float valve.

Can you adjust the float for water levels

Asked by: Terry66
I'm not sure I understand your question - The flow rate of the valve is dependent on the water pressure (average is 40-60 PSI) When the water level is high enough, the float valve will stop flow in or out of the tank.
Answered by: Tina - Rubbermaid
Date published: 2018-10-06

Is there an adjustment on it? It takes about 20 minutes to put a gallon of water in tank

Asked by: Kajun67
Flow rate is most dependent on the water pressure (average is 40 - 60 PSI). Flow rate is also dependent on the diameter of the hose attached to the valve (approx 100 gallons per hour at 40-60 PSI)
