Rated 1 out of 5 by from Birds hate - squirrels love Not squirrel proof. They rest their hand on the ledge and eat out of the holes. I replaced one bird feeder with this one and the birds hate it, but the squirrels love it! I'm retiring this bird feeder, and bringing back my old one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the red church feeder! Overall I'm very happy with this feeder. It holds a lot of seed so you don't have to refill as often. There is one issue that I need to bring to everyone's attention. Just a couple days ago I went outside and heard frantic pecking that was coming from the feeder. For an instant I wondered why a woodpecker would be pecking on a metal feeder. After looking closer I found that a small chickadee was trapped INSIDE the feeder! To say I was shocked is putting it mildly since there's no good way to get in it. What I figured out is that it must have gone inside through one of the small feeding holes. Maybe it thought this was a nice house until it got stuck inside. I had deliberately let the seed level get way down in order to clean out the feeder. This wouldn't have happened if the seed level was high enough to cover the holes. I'll make sure it's more filled from now on! The little guy was very happy when I raised the lid and set him free. So my advice is to make sure you keep enough seed in it to prevent a little bird from going inside through the feeding holes. Otherwise it's a very nice, well made feeder that should last a long time. I'm very happy with it, and the birds must think it's pretty cool too.

I have had many kinds of feeders, but cannot figure out how to open this one. Any information will be helpful. I am sure once someone gives me a hint, I will be able to figure it out. Thank you

You would open it by removing the top.

L can keep squirrels out but the chipmunks can get inside and then I have to remove cover to let them out. How do I keep them out?

Asked by: nana1940
This was not designed to keep out animals as small as chipmunks. We do not have a recommendation.

what do the wire levers on the side of the feeder do? it appears to me that the perch is to close to the feeder for birds as large as a cardinal to perch and eat.

Asked by: amy g p
The wire lever is a function for different weights of squirrels. It is a resistant function. 1st Position is for light weight squirrels so the feeder port closes when the squirrel stands on the perch. The 2nd and 3rd Positions are for heavier squirrels.
