Does this contain glucosamine and/or MSN?

Asked by: Sarah75
Thanks for your question. We do not add any joint supplements to the Equine Senior. It will not contain either one of the ingredients you listed. Purina horse feeds do not include oral joint-health supplements (OJHS). Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are not approved horse feed ingredients in all states. In addition, concentrate feeding rates are highly variable between horses, even those of the same body weight. Horses eating different amounts of feed would eat different doses of OJHS and may not receive the recommended amounts to achieve desired results.

My Horse is HYPP N/H.  What is the percent Potassium of this feed?  Like the nutrition option this feed offers, but the molasses is listed as the fourth ingredient concerns me.....I have been feeding Omelene 100 which is .85% K+.  Thankyou.

Asked by: Appaloosa1
The Purina Equine Senior will have a 1.6% potassium. If your horse does not have any issues chewing and digesting hay, the Omolene 100 will be our lowest potassium percentage. If you would like to call and discuss, we can offer other complete with roughage options for older horses with HYPP. 1-800-227-8941

How many cups are in a bag?

Asked by: ArtemisEquestrian
We would prefer you weigh the product for feeding amounts. However, one quart (4 cups) will weigh approximately 1.2 lbs. You should have about 165 cups in a bag (41.6 quarts).

My daughters first pony is late 20’s - early 30’s. Heavy and allergies.  Approx 250 pounds.  Gets antihistamine and cough suppressant but can no longer eat hay.  Would this feed be sufficient and how much would she need am/pm?

Asked by: DMC53
Thanks for choosing Purina. This would be a great product to use to replace hay. We have the suggested minimum rate which is 1.3 lbs. for each 100 lbs. in body weight. For your guy, that would be at least 3.25 lbs. of Senior per day. This may be increased according to activity level and/or body condition. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

My horse is 24 years old with some dental issues.  He is on 6 qts of Senior with Amplify 2 x per day top dressed with 1 QT Alfalfa pellets (dry) and 2 flakes am/pm and recently began having ia lot of gas. Any suggestions?

Asked by: Kathy17
Thanks for choosing Purina. You may want to try using some of the Outlast which is our gastric support supplement. This may not be available for ordering through the Tractor Supply Company store. However, a nearby Purina dealer should be able to order it for you. You could try just feeding the Senior alone with Amplify and not add any hay at all. When fed at the minimum (or above) feeding rate of 1.3 lbs. for each 100 lbs. in body weight you will meet the minimal roughage requirements. Then, you may increase above that feeding requirement according to body condition and activity level. Or, add Amplify as you are for calorie increase. Continue to work with your veterinarian to determine if there is an underlying issue. Or, you can always call us and we can discuss further at 1-800-227-8941.

It says do not mix with oats. Why is this?

Asked by: Jenran
A consumer may mix with oats to transition, but we do not suggest to dilute with oats since it will then dilute the nutrition and may not meet the horse’s minimum needs.
