Rated 1 out of 5 by from They don’t last long These bulbs are poor quality and don’t last very long. The contact melts and the bulb stops working. I’ve gone through dozens of these bulbs and they all do the same thing. I decided to order them from somewhere else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed One bulb didn't work, one was fine. Ordered 2 good price, but not for one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No complaints - I bought these bulbs for my pig houses about 3 years ago for all the fixtures (6 fixtures) with about 6 spares. The majority made it through at least one winter (constant use from November through Feb). I am just replacing the spares now. Pretty happy with the reliability - One caveat - I wouldn't try to over tighten them as the bases seem more fragile then the expensive brands.

Is this safe for baby chickens

Asked by: goatman1
Yes, but you should monitor the warmth with a thermometer near or in the cage. The chicks will naturally move away from the light if it is too close and toward the light if it is too far away. The environment around the chicks will determine the proximity.

How far should this be from chickens? I have a small starter coop, and just dont want it being to close.

Asked by: Will_Oak
There is not an exact distance since there are many variables. Best practice is to add a thermometer to the coop and set the lamp at a distance that maintains 98 degrees (F) near the middle of the coop. The manufacturer of the coop may provide more suggestions. One other suggestion is to watch the chicks to see if they are trying to get closer or further away from the heat source. That is always a good indication of the correct temperature.
