Dairy Calves or Orphan Beef Calves:
- 1ST MONTH: Feed free-choice along with the proper amounts of milk replacers.
- 2ND MONTH: Feed free-choice as the sole ration. Milk replacer is optional.
- 3RD MONTH: Feed free-choice along with free-choice hay/pasture or other suitable forage.
- 4TH-6TH MONTH: Feed up to 6 pounds per head per day along with free-choice alfalfa hay.
- If intake exceeds 8 lbs. per head per day limit feed and best if fed twice a day.
- BEEF CALVES: Feed free-choice in a creep feeder to suckling calves along with good forage.
- For weaned calves up to 1 year old feed at a rate of 2-4 lbs/head/day with good quality forage.
- Provide a source of fresh clean water at all times.
- To insure freshness, offer only the amount of feed that calves will consume in one day.
- Clean feeder pails daily.
- Proper housing and sanitation are important to help prevent calf diarrhea and pneumonia. Consult your veterinarian for a planned herd health program.
