Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor chain saw performance Bought Poulon saw last year. Wouldn't run right. Store replaced. 2nd one almost as bad. Poor carburation! Buy a Stihl!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely worth the money! Excellent value for what its worth, I purchased it to cut some trees in my property, and it made quick work of them. Just follow the steps to turn it on properly, and it should be good to go. Excellent chainsaw, I would definitely get it again.
Date published: 2019-11-11
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poulan PRO is really a back up saw The Bar and Chain on the PR5020 is cheap thin and was replaced with a thicker bar and better chain. The thinner bar and chain mask the fact that the (50cc) engine is a bit of a dog. For 199.00 or 169.00 it is not a bad back-up saw. Not an every day (PRO) saw as the name of the saw suggests

i was told to use ,non ethanol fuel ,that it would make the saw last longer ,,,is this true,,just found this out ,,,now i know why my others went bad.had different kinds an weed eaters last about a year ...

Asked by: bjdrawh
Hi bjdrawh. Most chainsaws have two-stroke engines, and must always be run using a mixture of gasoline and two-stroke oil. Most of our chainsaws require a 50:1 ratio of fuel+oil, but you should check the user manual that comes with your chainsaw for model-specific requirements. It is important to accurately measure the amount of oil to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained, since even small inaccuracies can drastically affect the ratio of the mixture. You should use regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. If you run the engine on a lower octane grade than 87, knocking can occur. This gives rise to a high engine temperature and increased bearing load, which can result in serious engine damage. When working with continuous high revs for tasks like limbing, a higher octane is recommended. Your chainsaw will include a bottle of 2-cycle oil with purchase. It does NOT include bar and chain oil. For best results and performance, you should use two-stroke engine oil that is specially formulated for air-cooled two stroke-engines. You should never use two-stroke oil intended for water-cooled engines, sometimes referred to as outboard oil, and you should never use oil intended for four-stroke engines. We recommend the use of bar and chain oil with good adhesion characteristics. Note that poor lubrication of cutting equipment may cause the chain to snap, which could lead to serious, even fatal injuries. You should add bar and chain oil each time you refuel. Thank you for considering Poulan Pro for your outdoor power equipment needs.

Can this saw be used with an Alaskan saw mill and do you also sell a chain for milling?

Asked by: JA21270
Hello JA21270. Thanks for your question. Typically portable saw mills use ripping chains filed to about 10-15 degrees, rather than the normal 30 degrees. Regardless, the Poulan Pro 50cc is not made for running ripping chains in a portable saw mill. Running a mill requires a lot of bottom-end power and an extra durable crank case. I wouldn’t recommend anything small than a Husqvarna 372XP, but would suggest something more like a 390XP or 395XP. You would definitely need a magnesium crank case at the very least.

can bars with 20" 3/8, .058 be substituted onto a PR5020 saw? Or best Poulan saw to fit this chain?

Asked by: BFDM

I have bought two of these Poulan Pro chainsaws.   first time used they were great.  The next time we couldn't get them started.   They run for a few seconds then die.    I have had a couple of friends look at them.   Is there a problem with these?

Asked by: patti bradley
Hi Patti. No, we haven't heard of any issues with our chainsaws. It's possible your ignition switch isn't "on", the engine is flooded, spark plug isn't firing, or fuel isn't reaching the carburetor. There are remedies for each of these possibilities on page 16 of your owner's manual. If you have misplaced your owner's manual, you can download a PDF from our website at this link: http://www.poulanpro.com/customer-support/ Thank you so much for choosing Poulan Pro for your outdoor power equipment needs.

Hi BPWilson. The best place to find owner’s manuals with detailed instructions for maintaining or servicing your chainsaw is on the Poulan Pro website. You can also find repair parts manuals with detailed lists of service parts and accessories. Download or view PDFs at: http://www.poulanpro.com/us/support/owners-manuals/ Once you download the manual, I suggest that you check out the troubleshooting guide for tips, tricks, and solutions for common issues. Looking for a bar and chain for my PR5020 and can't find one. Where can I get a combo and what part # .

Asked by: cfb2

what is the replacement chain for this saw

Asked by: dshaffer
Hi dshaffer. 20" replacement chain for this saw should be part # 577180501, assuming your current model chainsaw chain has a 3/8" pitch and 0.050" gauge. It's always best to check the user manual that came with your chainsaw for the recommended bar lengths, as well as chain pitch and gauge. Only those recommended sizes and specs will provide optimal performance. If you no longer have your manual handy, you can download a PDF on our website at: http://www.poulanpro.com/us/support/owners-manuals/ Thank you so much for choosing Poulan Pro for your outdoor power equipment needs.

My tractor supply there were a lot of returns with this poulan pro model, previously owned one that did not last long as well what have they done to improve the longevity of the saw? I am considering a Johnsered in the same size what is the difference? TY

Asked by: matt_savage31
Hi Matt-Savage31. We don't have frequent returns for our chainsaws - not for performance issues anyway. Many dishonest people buy them for a particular task, and then when they're done, they return them saying there's something wrong with them. It's an unfortunate situation for chainsaw manufacturers, and we deal with it a lot right after big storms hit, like ice storms or hurricanes. We've had to work with retailers to change return policies to try to eliminate the issue. Anyway, the PP5020 is our most powerwful consumer-grade chainsaw. But you can't go wrong with Jonsered. Both Poulan Pro and Jonsered are made by Husqvarna, but Jonsered chainsaws tend to be a more premium saw than Poulan Pro. Tractor Supply sells multiple models of our Jonsered chainsaws. If you step up to somethink like the CS2166, you start getting into the professional-grade saws, and judging from your comments, I suspect you need a heavy-duty saw! Thank you so much for considering both Poulan Pro and Jonsered for your outdoor power equipment needs.
