Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not what we needed It didn't work for us. I know others who have had luck with this system, but due to trying to restrict certain areas, the underground fence was the better option for our pup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps the fur babies close. This is a life saver for sure. I have Yorkie’s and they are bad to bolt when they hear a nose across the road. This has put a stop to that. I still keep an eye on them because other dogs may wonder over here but this keeps them close to the house. Worth the money. Also, if you warranty though Tractor Supply and it’s destroyed or stops working they will replace it. No questions asked.

How old does a puppy have to be to start using this system?

Asked by: VickyN
Hello Vicky. We recommend that dogs are at least 5-6 months old and mature enough for basic commands such as "sit" before training on a containment system.

Can you make the area smaller. We have a small yard.

Asked by: Tina1
Thanks for your question, Tina! You can indeed make the boundary area smaller. Although the maximum range is a 90' radius, you can typically get this down to a minimum of around 15' by using the boundary width dial on the transmitter. The dial allows for fine-tuning the boundary size so you can get it to just where you need it.

If your dog runs out of the allotted boundaries, does this system continue to shock them until they get back in range?

Asked by: AmyK
The collar will provide a correct when the pet leaves the boundary. It does have a 30 second safety timeout so that this pet is not over corrected.

Can the box be plugged in outside is it weather proof?

Asked by: Margarett
Thank you for your question, Margarett! The transmitter unit is not weatherproof and must be installed indoors, preferably in a climate-controlled room/area.

Will it work in a small area of~10'x15'? If I set up around my other house with a car, refrigerator, hvac system in the enclosed area does it work? I assume the sending unit must not be near metal object

Asked by: rpope23
Thank you for this question! The smallest area the PetSafe Wireless Pet Containment System will effectively cover is 15 to 20 feet. If you are looking to cover only 10 to 15 feet you may consider the PetSafe Outdoor Pet Barrier that will allow you to cover up to 16 feet in diameter with the wireless setting, or use up to 150 feet of wire to cover a bit larger area. Will the unit work on a sloping yard or does the area have to be pretty flat?

Asked by: Lectrichog
Thanks for your question, Lectrichog. The PetSafe Wireless Pet Containment System will work with gently sloping yards. Depending upon how steep of a slope and/or how great of a difference between two areas of a yard, however, it is possible the transmitter signal could have difficulties covering both areas. If the separation or slope of two areas in a yard is particularly steep, a PetSafe In-Ground Fence System may be a better choice for you and your pet. If you have any questions about our products, please feel free to contact PetSafe Customer Care at 1-800-732-2677.

When the power goes out, what happens with the collar? I have heard that a power fault can cause the collar to shock continually. Is there any truth to this?

Asked by: Jama0713
Hi there, that's a wonderful question! The Wireless System is designed to recognize power outages and shuts down without activating the receiver collar. However, if your pet is near the Boundary Zone during the power failure, he/she may receive a static correction. To lessen this chance, you may consider a battery backup device for the Transmitter if your area experiences frequent power outages.

We live in a 40x60 metal building, with lots of tin will it still work if I put it in the house or will the signal mess up?

Asked by: Agrace
Thanks for reaching out about this. The Wireless Pet Containment System works on the basis that a radio signal is sent from the transmitter, in all directions. When the collar is out of range of the transmitter, it loses that signal and begins to activate. If the transmitter is placed in a metal building, this can cause the boundary signal to be inconsistent at the boundary. In your case, one of our in-ground containment systems would be a much better options.

Does this system work if there is a metal roof on the house?

Asked by: Carol67
Hi Carol, thanks for your question! While it's possible you may be able to use this system in a home with a metal roof, there are some cases where metal can cause issues with the signal from the transmitter reaching the receiver collar. If you are unsure if this will work in your home, you may wish to consider a PetSafe In-Ground Containment System instead.

Our house is on a half acre. Will one unit cover both the back and front yard or do I need a unit for each side of the house?

Asked by: lulu622
Hi Lulu, thank you for your question! This wireless pet fence can cover up to 1/2 acre in a circular shape. Your transmitter will always be the center of the circle, this is important to remember when choosing a location for the transmitter and determining if additional coverage will be needed. You can combine up to three wireless transmitters to expand your coverage if needed.

do the flags stay in the ground permanently, the grass is cut weekly

Asked by: quilting Annie
Thanks for your question, Annie! The boundary flags won't affect any functionality of the system, but are used as a visual aid during training so that you and your dog have a better idea of where the boundary edge is, so they can certainly be removed/replaced as needed.

I read that metal or aluminum walls will block the signal; is that also true if there is a metal roof on the house? Or will the signal travel through the walls fine?

Asked by: fourpaws
Hello there, thank you for your question! Homes with metal siding or a metal roof may experience some inconsistency in the wireless boundary. To ensure your pet is properly contained, we would recommend using one of our in-ground pet fences like the Basic PIG00-14582 instead.

Can this be used in a straight line across the front of my yard or does it have to be in a circle?

Asked by: JuJuWyatt
Thank you for your question! Our Wireless Pet Fence can only contain a circular area. However, you will be able to adjust the size of the circle to accommodate 1/2 yards and under. Should you wish to only contain one side of your yard in a straight line, we would recommend using one of our In-Ground Pet Fences instead.

I have 2 dogs and I know i can get another collar. My question is I have 8 yr old 80lb dog that as soon as he gets out the door without a leash he takes off running so can he be trained using a leash to learn the area and will it stop him

Asked by: worriedpetowner
Thanks for your question! You can certainly use a leash to train him on the system. In fact, the training process recommended in the manual/Operating Guide for the system begins with on-leash training before moving on to off-leash training sessions. If you follow those steps, it should help him learn to stay within the boundaries even if he should get out without a leash on.

How long does the pet feel the collar correcting them for?

Asked by: KINGT
Thank you for your great question. The collar will continue to give your dog a correction until they come back into the containment area. However, the collar does have a safety time-out feature, and it will stop giving a correction if the collar has been outside of the containment area for 30 seconds or longer.

How do you set it up. How do you establish the barrier

Asked by: martin6
Thank you for your great question. The fence transmitter projects a circular-shaped boundary, and the transmitter will be at the center of this boundary. You will use the boundary dial and hi/lo switch on the transmitter itself to make this circular containment area larger or smaller and test your receiver collar on the boundary to know where the boundary is set.
