Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a good product for potatoes My potatoes were doing splendidly and were due to be mounded with another 6 to 8" of soil. I got the good stuff - Miracle-Gro - so I could look forward to a bumper crop of potatoes this fall. Within three days, my potatoes were dead or dying from vericillium wilt and fungus gnats. Of the ten original plants, six died and four are yellowing and in the process of dying. The only way to recover the bed, apparently, is to dig up all of the affected soil (essentially the upper three inches below the Miracle-Gro) and replace it. Even after that, I will probably never be able to plant potatoes in that plot or the adjacent plots ever again. I am not upset about the wasted money, I am unhappy about the destruction your product did to my garden and the lasting effect it will have on future crops. Needless to say, I will not buy your product again or recommend it to a friend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor growth medium had the same problem last year. soil mixture retains water and even water loving plants like hibiscus fail to continue blooming and loose all foliage. product is inconsistent from bag to bag. you can market a product all you want when you have a name, but quality control must be maintained. most bags when purchased are excessively heavy with moisture. not a good way to keep shipping cost down nor is it easy for the average person to be lifting. there are other companies producing potting soil

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Miracle Mulch Have been using this potting mix for years and have noticed a downward trend over the last few years. This year was the last time I will buy. This Product should be called Miracle Mulch. This year , in one bag alone, I collected over a coffee can of rocks and non-decomposed woodchips. Those were just the wood chips to big to fit in the seed start trays. Going to start using other product before this product actually turns into more debris than dirt.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Safe for Vegetable Gardens I added about a quarter bag to my garden. Is it safe for vegetables?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Something's very wrong! I'm an experienced gardener and have started my own plants for decades. This year, for the first time, I transplanted my seedlings into pots using Miracle Grow Potting Mix. Not sure what the problem is, but the seedlings, while they have grown well, look anemic. The leaves on tomatoes and peppers, in particular, are pretty pale looking and not the vibrant green that I usually see. I'm sure once I get them in the garden, they'll be fine. But in the pots, they look like something is missing in the soil.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from poor potting mix I have used Miracle Grow Potting soil for years, and found it to be of top quality, and do the job advertised. This spring however, the product was full of stones and debris and I found it made my hanging baskets very heavy.I checked the package to make sure it was not garden soil, because it certainly appeared to be in both weight and ingredients.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Way too much filler (sticks, shredded bark, etc) I have purchased this product for years and used it with great success. It was always very clean. Starting last year I noticed lots of filler such as sticks and shredded bark. It does not break down and just because it is an organic substance doesn’t mean it is clean. This is how insects and disease is spread. Your product is one of the higher priced products which I am willing to pay but I expect a good product- this isn’t.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fungus gnats I bought this a few months ago, repotted my plants, and immediately noticed little gnats starting to fly around that weren’t there before. Plants are now dying because of it. I reopened the soil bag recently and gnats flew out. Buyer beware, this stuff will kill your plants.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fungus gnats and dying plants. Miracle Gro used to be my go-to so not sure whats changed, but we bought this and their cactus soil for indoor potted plants and were immediately infested. Our dumb selves thought "oh, maybe it was the bag or chain store stored it improperly" so we bought more at a different store and replanted after peroxide dunking and washing the roots to replant. Bugs returned. Moved them outside. Unfortunately outside is a larger garden setting and even on a tight watering schedule the bugs have slowly been spreading to other planters, so now I guess i get to spend a fortune on pest control to try to limit the population before the whole yard gets infested. My entire herb starter area died as the gnats feed on roots which is especially catastrophic for seedlings, and the loaded down fly strips we've been using to catch the adults are gross.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Returning mine I used this soil so many times and it’s great if you didnt get an infested soil. So many bad reviews about gnats and other pests. I live in an open space loft and have a ton of houseplants so I have to be careful with what soil/plant I bring in. Got a soaking wet soil today and I’m afraid it’s infested. I don’t want to jeopardize my plants and my home and I have a bad feeling about this new bag since the previous one I brought in was bad. Sadly, this is the last time I’m purchasing a potting mix from you guys. I don’t want to ever gamble again. Miracle gro, I don’t trust you anymore

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not What it Used to Be I have used Miracle Grow potting soil for as long as I can remember (I am 63 and an avid gardener. ) I used to have gorgeous annuals but in the last couple of years, it seems everything I plant gets mold and mildew on the leaves. The soil doesn't seem to drain as well as it used to and gets moldy. Time to switch brands.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from moldy The last couple of times I bought Miracle Gro potting soil it was moldy. It used to be the best but I don't think so any more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Infested with fungus gnats! The bag was infested with soil gnats! Now all my plants are infested. Stay away from this product , I'd give 0 stars if I could

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE! Nonstop allergens! There must be some immense amount of aging mold in this stuff. I used it to transplant seedlings to larger containers last evening - woke up this morning and COULD NOT STOP SNEEZING! Hayfever symptoms worse than ever in my entire life. If you have ever had minor allergies, buy this if you want to be dysfunctional, sneezing, chasing your runny nose, and hardly able to see. I removed all of this potting mix from my plants (harming the seedlings in the process!) and immediately felt better. DON'T BUY IT you're wasting your money and your plants.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mulch and Gnats Mix I had bought the Moisture control a few months back and the “soil” would stay moist and started rotting all of my plants. So, I decided to go back to the regular type of potting soil even though I was previously having the same problem gnats and soil not drying after weeks. Apparently, nothing has changed and perhaps worse. This bag is basically an overpriced bag of fertilized mulch. Which has really increased the gnats that I was previously trying to rid the previous plants with other Miracle gro soil of. Not sure what to do now since most stores seem to only carry miracle gro or cheap brands. Maybe I’ll buy the cheap kind without gnats and amend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Infested with nats! Used to pot my freshly rooted plants, with in a week they were all dead, when i pulled them out to check the roots, to my suprise there were none left and the dirt was swarming with gnats!!! 200 plants+ months of work gone!!! Thanks Miracle Grow

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Half my plants are rotting Half my plants are rotting because this soil is never drying out. Even plants that I haven't watered in two months still feel wet. Or roots may be burning because of the fertilizer in the mix, I don't know which. I have lost six plants so far, trying to figure out what is wrong, they are healthy when purchased but as soon as I transplant them into this mix they are rotten within a month or two. My ivy had also caught spider mites and I was not able to save that one either. I hope it isn't too late to save the rest of the plants. All plants are indoors, some plastic pots some clay pots. The rot is beginning at the stem bases or the base of the entire plant turning it black. Moisture problem or is the fertilizer in this mix too strong for these plants? Maybe both? What can I mix with the mix to improve the plants?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plants died. Bad soil I am an avid gardener and I used this soil for the first time for my potted plants and all three plants died. My son used this soil in the summer for his potted plants and all,of his plants died too. I will never buy this product again. It’s not even true soil for your plants to grow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will not purchase again This morning I went out to water my plants. Immediately, the water drained out of the pot. I stuck a stick in the soil to see if maybe I watered it too much and the water drained, or did the water find a way out before the plant received any water. Unfortunately, it seems that the soil gets so compacted that the water only touches the surface and finds a way out of the pot because the soil underneath was dry as bone. I loosened the soil and watered it again, however the water slides right out of the soil and out of the pot. The only way I can make sure my plants receive their water is to stand out there and water them at a slow constant drip. I think this has been the cause of having to replace my plants every three months, very sad about that, but I will look for a different soil.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from FUNGUS GNATS I bought multiple bags of this Miracle Grow potting soil to repot large 7+ year old plants and I now have an infestation of fungus gnats. I’m hoping putting sand on top of soil and watering with hydrogen peroxide and water solution will help, but I thought I was buying good soil. NEVER will purchase this brand again:( :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two plants potted at same time. What a difference I purchased some flowers and a 6 pack of Zuchinni plants. Ran short of soil. Had purchased the first bag of potting soil from Nursery and ran a little short. Went and purchased a smaller amount for last pot and puchased Miracle Gro Potting Mix to just finish off last pot. The differnce is not even close. Miracle Gro pot plant is much bigger and healthier. Next year I will spend a little more and do all planting with this. Really worth it.. Wish I could post a picture..

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Chips and small sticks I have use Miracle - Gro Potting Mix for many years and it was GREAT for growing plants in a pot before transplanting them to the garden or larger area. I have notice in the bag content are small sticks and wood chips in a large quantity.I purchased Potting Mix and not Potting Sticks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bugs in mix Have used this product for years with great success - but not this year- bugs in the mix lead to a loose of tomato plants .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not the cheapest but the BEST Container Mix for the last 25 yrs The BEST container soil is light, almost fluffy! It should have either perlite, vermiculite, or rice hulls in it or it will be too heavy. Some folks mix a big bag of this with composted cow manure and a bag of spagnum peat moss. BUT it is fine by itself ESPECIALLY if you are planting flowering annuals. For those, NOTHING beats regular ole MiracleGro POTTING mix! If you are planting a hanging container or window box use just this - or, if you are in the deep south where you get lots of super hot humid dry mid-summer days, try mixing this with their organic potting mix in the green bag.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product infested with GNATS! I began growing houseplants last spring; by Fall, it was time to repot some of them. I used this product and within a week, noticed tiny winged insects living in the soil and flying around my house. I repotted my plants a second time using the same product, and now I have more gnats than ever. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT; NICE LOOKING PLANTS CAN BE ACHIEVED WITHOUT GNATS!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Potting soil What changed in this soil? I've always had good luck but this year was different. My peppers were stunted the leaves the size of peas, another just looked clorotic all year, I used this along with miracle gro plant food. No bugs or disease. Even blooming plants did not do well, new rose leaves the size of peas, very disappointing I will try another brand next year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fungus gnats, seemingly an old story I know now I'm late to this party, but it took me re-potting 2 plants over the course of a few months, and getting fungus gnats suddenly in both before i thought to check if there was a connection to the soil I was using. Lo and behold, Miracle-Gro seems to have quite a reputation online for harboring fungus gnats, which are a huge pain to deal with in your house. I know Miracle-Gro has their standard response about it being a natural product and thus prone to infestation etc blah blah. But no other soil seem to have the problem as consistently as theirs so, natural or not, they may want to think about doing something to combat the problem. I certainly wont be buying any more Miracle-Gro until they do.
