Rated 5 out of 5 by from deer repelent i use this to keep the deer away from my bushes and plants. it works great. smells bad at first. but if you get a real bad rain storm it washes away. but like i said, i use it and will continue. seems like the only thing to keep deer off the property.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff is great I have been using this for over 30 yaers when I need fertilizer and not weed killer. It never burns and is much less costly than weed and feed. It gives uniform color and does exactly what it says on the bag. I guess that's why golf courses really do use this plus I like that its organic and not chemicals. I always use this 3 times a year.

It's been raining a lot can I apply right after rain

Asked by: Cabin2019
Yes. We recommend applying after aerating the lawn for the best results.

Why are the % of nutrients so low, or 0? I have a new lawn, poor, clay soil- don't I need @ a 18-8-10, at least for the first spring feeding? I also need a weed preemergent, for sure. Does this come in different formulations? Thanks.

Asked by: kaylhs1
Milorganite is an organic fertilizer, composed of heat-dried microbes that have digested the organic matter in wastewater. Due to its organic composition, the nutrient analysis of 6-4-0 is designed to improve the soil structure through the slow release of Nitrogen and Phosphorus, as well as naturally-occurring trace minerals and micronutrients. For a complete recommendation of the needs specific to your lawn and soil conditions, you can take or send a soil sample to your local county extension.

How quickly after using this can I plant new grass seed?

Asked by: Katie01826
Milorganite can actually be used at the time of planting new grass seed. The ratio to use is: 1 part seed to 4 parts Milorganite.

Does help your grass grow or grow faster or does it just make grass greener

Asked by: Coolrob257
This will feed though it's slow release so it takes a few weeks to break down in the soil and will then feed for about 8 weeks. It does also contain iron for greening.

I was told this is a great product to use on all shrubs, flowering and not. I was told that it discourages deer from feeding too. Do I wait for early spring to apply?

Asked by: Maddie5
Yes, it can be used safely on lawns, flowers, vegetables, shrubs and trees, as well as a carrier when spreading grass. Milorganite can be applied any time during the growing season. However, for best results we recommend four annual applications on your lawn. Northern Grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass, Fescue, and Perennial Ryegrass should be fertilized four (4) times per year. For the last application, fertilize with Milorganite as late in the season as possible—just before the first deep freeze or snowfall. This fertilizer application, known as “dormant feeding,” encourages healthier, greener lawn in spring. When to Apply Application Rate Memorial Day, end of May 36 lbs per 2,500 sq ft July 4th, Canada Day 36 lbs per 2,500 sq ft Labor Day, early September 36 lbs per 2,500 sq ft Thanksgiving, mid November 36 lbs per 2,500 sq ft Southern Grasses, such as Bermuda, St. Augustine, Centipedegrass, Bahia, and Zoysia, should be fertilized four (4) times per year. Centipedegrass and Bahia grass prefer spring and summer feedings, and to help prevent winter kill, avoid fertilizing these varieties in the fall. Don’t fertilize southern grasses too late in fall. The grass is trying to go dormant and if you fertilizer you’re encouraging it to grow. This may cause your lawn to be less hardy as it enters cold weather and more susceptible to winter injury. The last time to fertilize in fall is one month before dormancy or the average first killing frost. When to Apply Application Rate Easter (after turf breaks dormancy) 36 lbs per 2,500 sq ft Memorial Day, end of May 36 lbs per 2,500 sq ft Labor Day, early September 36 lbs per 2,500 sq ft Early October (or when overseeding)* 36 lbs per 2,500 sq ft

Does it kills weeds as well as fertilize?

Asked by: Greener on the other side
This does not kill weeds. This is an all-purpose slow-release nitrogen fertilizer.

I have mushrooms growing in my new sod (6 weeks new). Will this product take care of the mushrooms?

Asked by: SheilaHH
Mushrooms are growing from all the moisture being given to the new sod. Milorganite will not eradicate the mushrooms, once the lawn dries out, they will go away.
