Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why chickpeas!??? I have used Merrick for the past 4 years. I studied and learned about lots of dog foods and found Merrick to be the best on the market for what it’s priced. My dog has digestive issues as well as allergies that are very sensitive to the foods she eats. When I switched her to the Limited Ingredient Lamb and Sweet Potato recipe I was ecstatic since I thought all my baby’s issues could be addressed with one food. HOWEVER, this has all changed since Merrick has changed their formula to Lamb and Chickpeas. Not only does my dog dislike the taste of this new formula, she is back to having digestive issues, itchy skin, and no other option for a food that won’t cause her discomfort. I am highly dissatisfied with this change. It is marketed that this recipe is “better” with its “8 key ingredients”. Unfortunately this statement is just a faulty sales pitch. I would suggest to the company to keep this recipe for the dogs and people that it benefits but to also bring back the Lamb and SWEET POTATO recipe that was a cure for many dogs sensitive skin and stomachs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Readers Beware! Look at the date of each review you’re reading. All of the 3 to 5 star reviews are BEFORE the horrible switch to chickpeas!!! Bring back the original sweet potato recipe! My poor dog has been suffering from gas ans diahrrea and no amount of sweet potato that I add to it helps make it better for his tummy. We are switching to another brand. Merrick, please spare me your generic response to my comment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is Awful! BRING BACK THE SWEET POTATOES After years of struggling to find a food our allergic terrier could tolerate, your LID Lamb and Sweet potato food saved the day. Now you've undone all the good you did by changing the recipe to chick peas and brought new suffering to our family. The dog HATES the flavor of the new recipe. And when we can convince her to eat it, she has frequent and URGENT bowel movements. She's also super flatulent! What's worse, is we can't find another product that's working. She's been suffering for WEEKS. Why not introduce the Chickpea recipe SEPARATELY? Why did you have to take the sweet potato version off the market?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bring Back Sweet Potato! My dogs have not been pleased with the LID change from sweet potato to chickpeas. Please switch back. Have to doctor it with chunky canned food to get them to eat it. We can still find some LID sweet potato, but will probably switch brands if we can't.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bring back the original with the sweet potato!!!!! My French bulldog has tons of allergy issues this was the only dog food that worked for her...... your new recipe with the chickpeas gave her hives and spots all over !!!!! I am sure the change was for cost ..... change it back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why fix what wasn't broken???? Have been feeding my dog the limited ingredient lamb & sweet potato formula for years and have been very happy with it. Went to pick up a new bag and was informed they changed the formula, wasn't too happy, but figured I would give it a try. It's been shy of a week and my dog, who never had diarrhea, or gas, is just a mess. So now, I have a full bag of food I can't feed my dog. I am so disappointed and hope your company management re-thinks this change. I don't want to try any of your other products that have sweet potatoes, I want the one you used to produce. I know management has changed, maybe chickpeas are cheaper than sweet potatoes. Will have to look elsewhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bring back the sweet potato recipe Took almost 2 years to find a food my dog can tolerate and the real lamb and sweet potato limited ingredients is the best we found for her. She has allergies to chicken and gluten. The probiotics in the old formula worked wonders for my dogs digestive system. You can see a lot of people are not happy with this change. I suggest you change it back asap or you will lose a lot of customers. My dogs health is far more important than brand loyalty.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will not buy again My two dogs ate this food for years. Since the change of formula both dogs wouldn't eat this food and when they did, they got sick. Loose stools, flatulence. I found it amazing that my dogs would rather not eat for a couple of days than eat this stuff. They loved it before the formula change. I am now a former Merrick customer. My dog's allergies were so much better on the original formula.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bring back the sweet potatoes I agree with other reviewers that the change to chickpeas isn't great. My dog obviously doesn't like this new food; she leaves half of it in the bowl and only eats the rest when she gets hungry; also vomits occasionally after eating. She used to devour the sweet potato version. I'm really disappointed; I have a giant bag of dog food she'll have to eat because it's quite expensive. This product was recommended to help prevent ear infections and was working; this is definitely not new and improved for us.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NO STARS!!! TERRIBLE GAS AND SCRATCHING!!! UGH!!! My dog was happy with the original. NO issues. You changed the recipe and now she stinks, is scratching and has runny stools. I weaned her in as directed and after two months. DISAPPOINTED! I need to search for a new brand. That sucks! Loved the original. Seems to me after reading similar reviews you should have stuck with the old. I would have been willing to pay more if it was a cost issue. I am going to search for another brand...BUMMER!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Put the pop back in Poppy! Poppy is my anxious mini poodle who began having digestive issues at age 3. Having had 2 pugs with extreme food allergies, the bloody diarrhea, vomiting, & itching were so familiar. Once the vet stabilized my poor Poppy, I transitioned her as quickly as possible to Merrick sensitive diet lamb. The tummy trouble cleared right up and so did most of the itching, which has helped me pin down what is anxiety and what is allergy. I love the Merrick brand anyway and there is no way to express how wonderful it is to have my silly, loving, and energetic Poppy back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's too bad We have been feeding our 11 yr old black lab the Limited ingredient Lamb and sweet potato because he has had so many allergies and this was working so well for him UNTIL you switched from sweet potato to chickpeas, he is now super gassy and his tummy seems to be very uneasy. Its too bad because we really liked this brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not sure why the recipie change? We've been using the lamb and sweet potato for years and it worked great for our dog. For some reason they swapped sweet potato out in favor of chickpea it's been hard on our dog... she doesn't like the taste and it makes her pretty gassy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Salty and big keeblers I am very disappointed with this product. Why did you eliminate sweet potatoes? My dog loves it. Besides, I was reading sweet peas could be dangerous for dogs and instead of remove sweet peas you remove sweet potatoes!!! Also, this new recipe has a lot of sodium. Actually, you should reduce sodium in all your products. I used to love Metric but I am seriously considering try another brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bring back the sweet potato My pug needs lower protein and has done great with lamb and sweet potato. With the formulation of chickpea and going half and half with the old sweet potatomy pug has gained 4lb. This has upset his stomach. This is a bad change in recipient.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! BRING BACK SWEET POTATOES!!! BEYOND DISAPPOINTED in the change from sweet potatoes to chickpeas and lentils!!! Looking for new food which is AWFUL because we have loved Merrick for many years!! And it has been great But this new formula is reeking HAVOC on my poor dogs!! We are at a loss! And with NO NOTICE!! Dispicable! VERY BAD MOVE!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stop with the lentils Please return to the previous recipe with sweet potatoes. The previous version, I would've rated 5/5. The changes the company made to "improve" AKA cut costs is unacceptable. Consider me a former customer. I wouldn't recommend this product to a friend or anyone else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bring back the SWEET POTATOES! We have been feeding our dog the lamb and sweet potato recipe for several years, which helped her allergies immensely and seemed to keep her digestive system happy and regular. Since the recipe changed from sweet potatoes to chick peas, our dog’s digestive system has been SUFFERING. Her bowel movements are much more frequent, not desirable consistency (aka loose), and she is quite flatulent. She is in great health, so the only cause for this change is her food. We have fed her the new recipe for over a month, and none of these digestive changes have improved. Please bring back the sweet potato recipe. Otherwise, we will begin the arduous task of finding a new dog food brand.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed in changes Really disappointed in the changes to the old lamb and sweet potato. Kibbles are larger, higher protein, higher fat, more calories and no velcro closure on the 4 lb. bag. I was so happy with the lamb and sweet potato and really loved the velcro closure on the bag. Not happy with these changes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WAS GREAT UNTIL RECIPE CHANGE! My 65lb Am. Staff has very sensitive stomach and I had great success in switching her to the Lamb and Sweet Potato version of this food easing her diarrhea. HOWEVER, I made the mistake of feeding her the new recipe without realizing it as her food arrives via subscription. After 2 meals of this food she was throwing up and having non stop diarrhea for 3 days. I had to take her to the vet bc she was getting dehydrated and not keeping anything down, even white rice or water. So buyer BEWARE unless you want enjoy your dog becoming a walking volcano that explodes everywhere, I would try something else

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for sensitive tummies we tried many foods even prescription ones Murphy wouldn't or couldn't tolerate and his ulcerative colitis would flare making necessary to start back on medications. He is also fat sensitive so our trainer told us about the quality ingredients used by Merrick. Since starting the lamb and chickpea he has been off all his meds and doing great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SAVED ME THANK YOU Ok I’m not even kidding you all this food is a lifesaver. My 1 year old Mini Aussie names Bentley was having chronic diarrhea at about 9 months of age. We went to the vet a bunch, he had rounds of antibiotics, pumpkin, boiled chicken and rice, you name it. I was hysterical because I would have to wake up almost every hour to take him outside to have diarrhea. My mom brought home this food and it WORKED LIKE A CHARM. He hasn’t had diarrhea since. Thank you so so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ONLY Pet Food That We Feed Our Dogs We have 2 senior dogs, a 17 yr old black lab/border collie mix & a 15 yr old Spitz/Basset Hound mix. Due to food allergies, we switched to Limited Ingredient, Grain-Free Lamb & Sweet Potato dry dog food several yrs ago. Food allergies became a thing of the past & both of our dogs eat well & maintain a healthy weight. Just FYI...Our veterinarian advised us that chicken (or fowl) & beef are the 2 most common food allergies that dogs have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yummy Delicious! When we adopted our black Lab at a year & a half old, we asked our vet what she fed her dogs. Her response was Merrick. Initially we thought Win had skin allergies so we chose your limited ingredient grain free food. Win is almost four now, luckily has no skin problems and thrives on her Lamb & Sweet Potato.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My pups love it This food is the only one that my dogs will eat dry. I’ve been trying to compare it and have them pick another food and we keep coming back to Merrick. They love it. They have been eatting it for over 4 years. Great food. Please keep the recipe the same it’s great. Will always recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best food ever! We have a border collie with megaesophagus and we've had huge success with Merrick's Limited Ingredient Lamb & Sweet Potato recipe. It's easy for him to keep down and we don't worry about allergies complicating his life. His coat is also the softest and most beautiful it's ever been. I can't say enough good things about this food!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Started buying this about a year and half ago. Our GSD pup was having some allergy issues and started to refuse to eat other foods. This one in particular for some reason keeps the allergies away and she hasn't grown out of it. As far as I can tell the ingredients havent changed at all since we first bought it which is a bonus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the healthy results! I was feeding my 2 1/2 year old male chocolate Labrador Retriever Merrick Grain free poultry free lamb & sweet potato starting July 5, 2017 after trying several other so-called grain free dog foods. He has suffered from severe bacterial yeast infections and was on antibiotics, prednisone, Lamisil and a prescription dog shampoo. He had oozing sores, bald spots, would constantly stand and shake because he itched so badly. He was constantly chewing on his feet and his ears are always yeasty and had a bad smell. I hated him being on medication, which he had been on & off from October 2016 until May 2017. Prednisone made him food aggressive as well. I am happy to report that 2 weeks after he started this food all skin issues have disappeared. His coat is soft, shiny & healthy looking. He still has issues with his ears. So, as of today, November 6, 2017 I switched him from the Grain Free Poultry Free Lamb & sweet potato to the Limited Ingredient Lamb & Potato to knock the ear issues out. I discovered that my giving him canned duck limited ingredient food mixed with dry I was sabotaging my efforts (still poultry). Love, love, love Merrick! Also, I gave him the choice of the grain free poultry free and Limited Ingredient and he went straight to the Limited Ingredient and refused the other. He ate it with such vigor and wanted more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Dog Food For Picky Eaters!! I have a little Shih Tzu, who is the definition of a picky eater. I have fed him everything. I've tried every line of Fresh Pet, (which is a chicken and veggie slow cooked refrigerated roll/ other things supposedly "picky eater approved.") he didn't touch it. I've tried Blue Buffalo and many other high brand foods, he wasn't a fan. I've tried canned dog food and nope. I tried putting chicken broth into his food, cutting up real turkey and blending it in but he would only pick that out and leave all the kibble in there. Basically I've done everything. I've had him checked out and he has nothing wrong with him and he has absolutely NO problem eating MY food, but his food no way. I switched to Merrick Limited Ingredient with a spoonful of the Merrick Lil Plates wet dog food mixed in and he gobbles it right up. He eats his breakfast and dinner with no problem. I have been dealing with his pickiness for MONTHS. Such a relief to find something he will eat consistently that he loves and is super good for him. :)
