Simple and versatileThis is my first experience with a TIG machine. I spent a lot of time researching them and ultimately decided on the Hobart for 2 reasons: Its AC/DC making it mild steel, stainless, aluminium capable and it was a simple to set up/operate. There were a few close contenders but they both were more expensive because of digital controls and advanced features I probably would not use. The welder itself was very easy to set up and get running but I immediately had issues sustaining an arc. It took me about 20 minutes to track down the problem in my older Harris gas regulator. Once the argon was flowing correctly, the welder performed great. It will be a great addition to my home shop. I dont expect Ill ever need to weld anything thicker than 1/4 inch so its got plenty of power and I finally have an AC capable machine. I'm giving it 4 stars because I don't enjoy using the foot pedal. There is an upgraded torch switch available to replace the pedal but cost is high and sounds difficult to operate. I'm going to keep practicing with the pedal and hopefully get used to it. Also the torch itself comes set up pretty basic so I upgraded it with a gas lens stubby kit.

It's a Miller!!Opened box and was happy to see it is the exact same machine as the Miller Diversion 165 I previously had. Great machine. $500 cheaper than big name welder. Even uses Miller torch.
