Will this unit start and run a 5hp electric motor on a 80 gallon air compressor

Asked by: Dave4620
The surge current on the motor in this application would most likely overload the generator and the motor will not start or it will trip the breaker. The surge current available from the Elite is about 48 amps and continuous is about 41 amps. Anything over this will cause the generator output to droop(lose voltage) and prevent the motor from starting or cause the main breaker to trip off. Please check your motor starting amps on the compressor to see if falls into these parameters. Some compressors will allow the motor to start under no load which helps reduce current draw on start up. If the motor is a 230 volt motor it may work. Please again refer to the compressor information to see what the amp and voltage requirement is for the compressor you wish to utilize on the Elite.

Can we run a freezer or refrigerator off a Hobart welding generator? We want to run house appliances during or after a hurricane.

Asked by: Donnie H
Please accept our apologies on the delay of this response as there was a technical issue on our end of receiving the question. The Elite has a full KVA outlet that can be used to provide full generator power to a home in case of emergencies. The 9500 watt / 11,000 watt surge generator will power refrigerators and freezers as well as other appliances.

Can I run a inverter welder for Mig Tig. Vulcan omnipro 220. 50 amp plug ? Has both 110 and 240. Would rather use 240

Asked by: Ian ccc
We have not tested that unit on our generator. If the Vulcan has proper input power factor correction it should operate fine on either the 120 or 240 receptacles. If the Vulcan unit does not have proper power factor correction then it may constantly power down. Make sure that the fine amperage control on the Elite is set between 8 and 10 on the dial for proper output power.

The unit will need to be supported according to the manual. Do not support by the base alone, be sure to support with a frame that can properly support the 490 pound unit. Please refer to the manual for proper mounting instructions.
