Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute garbage After 2 weeks the handle broke off and it leaks from the bottom. Do yourself a favor and don’t buy this junk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality I bought this to replace a plastic one I had been using. The plastics one required turning it upside down to twist the base off - quite the messy hassle. This one I just twist the lid and lift it off. Water leaks when I do this, as expected (per instructions), but it isn't anywhere near as messy as the plastic one was! Love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible; cheap Got this only as the last option. The ring wasn't even completely round. It was bent so water would drip. Not only that but it overflows so when i filled it I was standing there and it completely leaked out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality product I bought this metal waterer to replace one that I used for 7 years until it rusted and leaked out the bottom. I filled this new one with water and half of the water ran out before I could get the top portion pushed down and attached. When I hung it in the coop I found that the top lid portion fit too loosely to the base to keep the water in the drinking basin. This is a very poorly made product that should be pulled off the market and re-designed and manufactured with materials of integrity like the ones made years ago. Mine will be returned and I will order a quality product from another company. Tractor Supply - I would be embarrassed to sell such a cheaply made product to my customers who depend on you for quality products.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Leaks I bought this to replace a plastic one that broke as they didn't have any plastic ones in stock and I needed a replacement immediately. As others have stated, mine also leaked no matter what I did to correct it. I made sure it was on a perfectly level surface, but it still leaked! For the money, this is junk. They desperately need to go back to the drawing board with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does it's job I have a small flock of chickens and it holds more than enough water for them for several days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great!!! Once you figure it out!!! Make sure that the base is level - I used a 10 in by 10 inch wood log - (use a small level to make sure it is level) Place the Metal Drinker on the "level log or whatever" and remove the outer metal sleeve.. then fill the tank up with water. Now, the most important part that took me forever to figure out...Re-Install the metal outer sleeve and push it down until it stops/rests on the locking pin (do use the "locking slot") just let any part of the outer sleeve rim rest on the locking pin). When the tank is empty and ready to be refilled you can now use the locking slot to lock the outer sleeve so you can carry the entire empty Drinker to your faucet to be washed and re-filled....hope that helps....Charles

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Design Doesn't Work Followed instructions, but it still leaks badly. This is poorly designed waterer. Do not recommend buying.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from easy to clean this is not made for hanging. people who say it leaks and it's hard to hang. it's not made to hang. if you follow the directions it works great. the handle on top is for removing the top. it does need to be on a level surface to operate correctly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a good product The one I got was a piece of junk. It leaked, it did not seal well, also hanging it is not easy.
Date published: 2016-04-17
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't Work Unfortunately this didn't work for us. It leaked all over the place and made the coop stinky. I made sure it was level and it still leaked over the edge. I read all the directions and tried it over and over. Taking it back and finding something else.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Handle lacks strength I've been using this for about two months. The handle is not crimped well and will come out easily. Ir would also be nice if the outer rim was a little deeper. Water does tend to flow out when the top is put on. Not much margin. Other than that it is holding up well enough. This waterer is not designed to hang contrary to a couple of reviewer's ideas.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK Waterer I bought this because the plastic ones I had weren't holding water. This one did rust on the inside after about a year. After cleaning it really good, I bought a can of spray on rubber coating from rust-oleum and it works great again. No more orange water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not effective I bought this drinker thinking, "metal > plastic", but this drinker has major flaws. The design mechanism for keeping the water clean seemed to make sense, but prevents you from using the outer handle for any type of load bearing - meaning you can't hang this. So that means it has to rest on a VERY level surface, or there will be no water in it an hour later. This is fine if you put it up on blocks, as long as the blocks stay level, but the lip of the drinker is such a poor design that you have to be perfectly level, because it fills right up to the top of the lip, there is no height margin for error - simply adding an inch of lip could have helped with non level surfaces so this thing doesnt drain out. Lastly, it just is a pain to keep it clean and to fill it daily. For whatever reason, the drinker area just grows muck and algae like its its job. Plastic drinkers are not much better, but i did find a top filling one with a bigger lip that is more forgiving than this model.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a hanger I'm a first time chicken owner and I've been using this for 4 months. So far it hasn't rusted any or developed any leaks. It works very well for watering my 6 hens. I wanted it to hang but the handle is not intended to hang and not tilt. I used wire-ties to make a nock for my chain to hook to. That works great a s a quick fix. I bought this thinking it was the best I could get. If it rusts I will be headed to the CO-OP for a different brand. Just fill it quickly and get the top back on before the tray overflows and it works well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I bought this waterer a year ago. Within 6 months it had developed rust so bad the chicken water was orange. However it is good to have a metal waterer in the winter if temps get below freezing and you have to melt the frozen water for the chickens. I won't buy another one.
Date published: 2015-05-03
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money I had mine for a lot less than a year and it rusted. It's already in the garbage can. I did better with the plastic water containers. So must for galvanized that doesn't rust. Don't bother with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Harris Farms Double Wall Drinker, 2 gal. Nice buy! I've read all the reviews. Seems to be mixed reviews, but I like being the judge for myself. I set a Behren's 3 gallon utility pan on top of my Farm Innovators Heated base for poultry water. I then set my 2 gallon Harris Farms Double Wall Drinker inside the utility pan to catch any drippings or incidental water spillage. So far so good, and no frozen water either. I haven't had any rust or corrosion issues either. Mine is kept inside the coop during the winter months, and then I switch to a plastic water drinker, and place it outside during the non freezing months. Im just a backyard chicken farmer from Indiana. I guess if I need to buy a new waterer every few years for my hens its not gonna break my bank. TSC is my go to store for my poultry needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for cold weather These are awesome for winter, and fit well over 10" decorative tin heaters. We even put a 3-way bulb in our tin can heater so we could vary the heat depending on the severity of the winter last year. We probably need to upgrade to a five gallon model this year, but I would highly recommend these. Be careful not to get the lip bent out of shape, however. They are strong, but are not designed for humans to step on them carelessly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great deal I recently purchased this item and have no complaints as of now. It is a great value for the money. Some reviews claim the seal leaks. Easy fix , just remove rubber seal and pull on copper tab and replace seal. If you can't do this you shouldn't be raising chickens

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Water Everywhere This drinker is horrible!! If it is perfectly level on the ground, maybe it would be fine, but if you hang it, it pours water everywhere!! Hanging it from the handle has to be just right, not centered, for it to hold the water. Even then, it is still not level. Not good for keeping the coop dry!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not well made Not a knock on TS they can only sell what is available in the marketplace. I am on my 3rd Harris 2 gallon waterer in 6 years. They all rust. Properly galvanized steel, should. not. rust.. I am going to try the Little giant by Miller and see how it goes. The reviews on it are marginally better than the Harris. It appears as if we no longer have the recipe to properly galvanize steel. I have galvanized sprinkling cans from the 50's that still haven't rusted, This waterer will provide about a year of good service. That's it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wasted money This waterer lasted less than 6 months for me.. it developed multiple holes in the inner wall which caused it to leak and empty quickly. The spring stopper on the inside wall was not strong enough to stop the water from pouring out. The rust took over this entire waterer, inside and out. Water was the only thing ever put into it and we have good clean underground water. In the last 2-3 weeks, I've had to check it every 1/2 hour, which seriously limited my life. I would never ever purchase another galvanized product from Harris Farms. I would rate it a zero if possible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality This is not made for long term use - after just a couple of years it's rusty and has a spot on the lip where it's rusted clear through,so cannot be used as it won't hold water. Initially it did serve ok for a small flock, but I purchased a galvanized metal one with the idea it would last for years - not the case at all! It's not worth the money, plastic breaks and I'm still looking for a reliable way to insure chicks have water. Very disappointed in the poor quality.
Date published: 2011-04-25
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little disappointed with quality The stopper that keeps water from flowing into outer rim is very weak, so water continues to flow into the outer rim while you are filling the fountain (cylinder), which in turn overflows the outer rim and makes a mess. I do like the design and it would be very easy to fill if not for the weak stopper. Just be sure to check the stopper strength before you purchase.

Do you fill from the top or does tank have to be separated from bottom? I can not get the holding tanks off of plastic ones when filled with grit.
