Reviews

GroundWork Pro Series Walk-Behind Spreader, 125 lb., BTGWPS-125 is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 161.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ground work Spreader I purchased this item brought it home put it together. I half filled the hopper and started spreading in about 15 feet one of the cotter pins broke. I replaced the broken cotter pin and started out again within 100 feet both cotter pins snapped. I called the 888-376-9601 number and was on hold for appx 30 minutes and then was told the mail box was full to try and call back. The spreader isn't worth the money and just another piece of garbage. I will not recommend this item.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Check axle cotter pin This spreader works fine. One of the problems is the axle is connected to the broadcaster via cotter pin and mine fell out rendering it useless. It took me about 10 minutes to figure it out and it’s fine. Unfortunately it was full so l had to empty it first, that was a pain. It’s also a bear to push uphill when full, but I think any of this type of spreader would be.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible at adjusting settings Bought this spreader last fall for over seeding now applying grub control. My cheap Scott’s spreader would put this one to shame!! It’s garage sale material!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spin mechanism is too weak Steer clear of this spreader. The spin mechanism/gears are too weak to work through even one 40lb bag of lime. I used it with a 40lb bag of fertilizer and 1/2 my lawn is now burned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Walk behind spreader Easy to push and walk behind. Large tires make for a smooth walk and even distribution. Would not recommend more than 75 lbs at a time it does get heavy going up a small hill. But over all it is an excellent spreader

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice spreader I used it to put down lawn fertilizer and it worked great. Took about 25 minutes to assemble.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks great, fell apart quick. We used the spreader twice before it sheared the cotter pins out of the wheel axle. I straightened the pins and got them back In place only to have it happen again, then the wheel fell off! It says that it will handle 125lbs, well I put nowhere near that in the hopper. Since we don't have a a truck it was a pain to get home. I don't know if I'm going to take it back or try to fix it, but the "Scott's" brand don't have these issues.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Do not buy. Tho product did not work once we filled it up with seed

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Design Brought the spreader back. Keeps shearing the cotter pins that allow the spinner below the hopper operate. Very hard to push also. No problem with the return BUT would not exchange. Looks great but that's it. Read reviews but did not see the ones that also complained about the cotter pins breaking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what it's name out to be. The gear box is flimsy and the unit was missing cotter pins.
Date published: 2020-04-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Slingin Not a bad little spreader for the price. Works great in our yard.
Date published: 2020-04-28
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spreader Easy assembly! Took only 1/2 hr. to set up and start spreading.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spreader Review Good Spreader for the Price ... Easy to calibrate ...
Date published: 2020-04-24
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wear long pants and closed shoes For a walk behind, the only downside is that it does not have a backplate to prevent whatever your spreading from going into your shoes. I have 2.5 acres and the job is done pretty easily. However i wish there were an attachment to put on my tractor mower.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy My husband bought this and was excited. He first had to figure out the output capacity since it was slightly different than what he used in lawn care applications. Then the major issue presented itself. We put a bag and half of granules in it (roughly 80lbs) and it would not work. The weight was too much that the granules were not spreading. We painfully unloaded all of the fertilizer (which was not easy) then tried to follow troubleshooting. We got it to work again so then put half of the amount in and it wouldn’t work. Do not buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great spreader We bought this spreader to ride over the soft soil

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Durable Spreader Sp[end the extra money for the "Pro Series Ground Work Spreader", you get what you pay for. Does everything you want it to do. This unit has a better wheel bearing system which makes it a breeze to use no matter how much weight is added. The gears are metal, not plastic and the gear box is enclosed. The dispenser slide is stainless steel and you can shut it off and on with maintaining the same flow. The chemical/seed container is huge, but you don't have to overload it, add more as it empties. This is one of the best spreaders I have owned and I would buy it again. It spreads the chemical weed and feed, fertilizers, as well as any grass seeds and variety I have used. The added plus is having a screen to separate any chunks and a plastic cover. Thank you Ground Work Pro Series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product exceptional maneuvers love cover eas Works better then expected very easy to ouch settings are perfect
Date published: 2020-04-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job Works great on smooth turf and dirt. Not the best on freshly tilled areas.
Date published: 2020-03-23
Rated 3 out of 5 by from GroundWork Pro Series Walk-Behind - Not very good. Not put together very well, all nuts/bolts were only hand tight. The spreader does not have a guard/shield to block fertilizer from hitting the person pushing the spreader... so plan on getting hit with the same amount of fertilizer while pushing as you are spreading.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dave your money The speaker broke the first time I used it . The gears used to spread material was to light. I would suggest that the company replace light weight spreader gear with a more heavy duty gear system . Thank god that the store did not have a problem refunding my money
Date published: 2020-03-01
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible The cotter pins in the axle repeatedly shear off rendering this useless because when the pin breaks, no spreading occurs. I've had to stop in the middle of a job too many times to replace pins which is outrageous. This unit is in the dumpster where it belongs.
Date published: 2020-02-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from BETTER THAN THE OTHERS This spreader is rugged and when assembled correctly it has no wobbling and strong durability. Dosen't clog and broadcast the product evenly.
Date published: 2020-02-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT spreader! I salt a couple of businesses in town and have used many different types of spreaders. Although this is mainly used for fertilizer and seeding applications, I use it to spread salt. It has lasted longer and out performed spreaders made for spreading salt! I own 2 and it is priced as right!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a good product Not worth the money. Everything you try to spread gets stuck. You have to keep shaking it to come out.
Date published: 2020-01-10
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not purchase. Junk. Pins in the axle have broken twice in 10 days
Date published: 2019-12-20
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Weak cotter pins. Weak cotter pins in the driveline sheared first use.
Date published: 2019-12-09
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built product. High quality spreader with gauge that precisely measures distribution of materials.
Date published: 2019-11-16
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not happy I’m not thrilled with this spreader. You have to open it up to #8 before anything comes out and on the #8 setting it throws out way to much product. Not sure if mine is a defect or if they are all like that but I won’t purchase another one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Seeder Review I bought this seeder and was very satisfied initially. I ended up returning the seeder the day after I purchased it do to faulty gears. The gears that were connecting the spinner plate drive line shattered. This was just with light use over seeding a yard that is very flat with no pot holes. It deserves some stars because it is a great size holding up to 100+ pounds varying how dense the seed is. I also liked the wider stance and larger tires.

Is there away to know what settings to use for specific fertilizers? I use Site One fertilizers and their website doesn't list this spreader?

Asked by: Jdel
Because products differ in application rates it is best to calibrate the spreader setting as follows: 1. Verify the amount of fertilizer that should be used for your lawn included on the bag label. 2. Weigh out the correct amount and add to the spreader hopper. 3. Select a low setting on the controller and spread on a premarked area of 1,000 sq. ft. 4. Weigh the remaining contents of the hopper to determine how much was used on 1,000 sq. ft. 5. Adjust the setting up or down as required to increase or decrease coverage. The proper setting is achieved when the hopper runs out at the end of the area to be covered.
