Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great company with a great product I bought our Generac GP5500 after great deal of research. We almost bought their stand by model but after weighing the pro's and con's we choose the GP5500. We will use our system primarily during Hurricane season if called upon. We will be able to back feed our house and run everything but the hot water heater and A/C unit. We purchased a portable A//C unit that cools off 750 sq ft to resolve that problem. While a cold shower is no fun. After you have been working in your yard cleaning up after a major storm they feel great..Hope we never need to call upon our GP5500 but if we do I am happy to have the best generator on the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recently purchased the GP5500. Great so far. I recently purchased the GP5500. Easy to assemble. Started right up. Have only run a couple of test months thus far. Seems to be a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great generator, just wish it had a better muffler I bought this generator when a tropical storm took out 90% of my city's powe grid about two years ago. Had to use this generator for about 3 days and was able to run my chest freezer, fridge, a couple of fans and an upright portable AC unit (hey, it's Florida in the summer time, you need AC!). The generator had plenty of power for these items and I was able to go most of the day with 8 gals of gas but the only down side/complaint I had was it's a lil noisy. Would love to have a quieter muffler on this unit and it would be better than great, but I suppose it's a minor inconvenience.

Can this product run a 220v small welder

Asked by: Jgar
As we are unfamiliar with the power output requirements of the load to which you are referring, we are unable to confirm compatibility. We would recommend ensuring any product you intend on operating with Generac's GP5500 portable generator, model number 5939, not exceed the unit's power output ratings (5500 running watts and rated VAC amperage of 45.8 amps at 120V / 22.9 amps at 240V) or the power output capabilities of the unit's featured receptacles. To ensure you are able to acquire the proper product for your personal needs, we would recommend working with a certified electrician in your local area. I have a miller 220 stick welder. Will this generator run my welder??

Asked by: Anonymous
I couldn't find electrical data on the Miller 220 stick welder, but according to the spec sheet for the Miller Thunderbolt 210 stick welder, the unit requires 43.4 amps input to get the rated output. The locking outlet on this unit can only deliver 25 amps. If the Miller Thunderbolt 210 is comparable to the Miller 220, this unit will not work. You would need a larger unit that can deliver 50 amps through the 240 V locking outlet.

What is the decibel rating... How loud is it?

Asked by: Rob5596d
As there is no industry standard set for testing the sound output ratings of a portable generator, we are unable to provide decibel ratings for any of our portable units. However, with the low-tone muffler that is featured on many of our portables, we consider the sound output of these units to be comparable to portable models of alternative manufacturers.
