Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT I have had this heater for 5 years and its just now starting rust on the bottom were the cord is. I use it outside and in the barn. It does pull power form my heat lamps when all together plugged in.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from they do not work. i bought two in november and have two frozen tanks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I owned 3 of them, ok with issues In my experience this heater works well but does not seem to shut off like in some of the other reviews. Also the heater has occasionally blown my fuses and the heater does seem to be of average durability. I use it in a big pond just to keep a hole open. This heater may last 1 to 2 years or may cause some of the mentioned issues and not last at all. Average.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from consistently poor performance I've tried these three times in the past, out of desperation when nothing else is in-stock and it's 10 degrees out! Have had terrible luck. The "best" one actually worked in a 16 gallon bucket for about 2 weeks before it died; two others did not last that long and constantly blew fuse in the barn. Would never buy them again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the money. Purchased two weeks ago and not happy with the product. Water tank will freeze up to 3 inches around element.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked first Worked great for about half a season. Now its the seocnd season, and sometimes the thermometer sticks open and it gets the water up into the 80's other times it barely puts out any heat. Right now it is frozen in place with about a 1/4 inch around it thawed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It's so so for outdoors I have one of these in a 50 gallon plastic tank and the top has almost frozen over repeatedly. Last night was 11 degrees. I'm getting worried I will need time to break ice at 5:30 am soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great for fish pond too. I have been using these for 10 yrs. for my 125 gallon plastic fish pond. I put a half hard cover over the pond and float the heater in there over winter and the fish love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for me I bought this about 2 months ago, just when the water started freezing. I have it in a child's plastic pool that is 6 feet across. it has not let me down yet. The tems got down in the single digits the other night and it worked fine. Two thirds of the pool was clear and the other third had a thin layer of ice. i even filled the pool with snow one night (so i didnt have to carry water) and in the morning it was melted. I have seen negative reviews, but for me i couldn't have asked for anything better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing Bought this heater. Took it home plugged it in. It blew all fuses out. Took it back & got another one. It only lasted another 2 weeks before it quit working. So I took it back again & bought another brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stock Tank Deicer I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. The ordering process was effortless and the deicer I ordered was delivered promptly.
Date published: 2011-10-14
Rated 2 out of 5 by from almost worked The heater didn't even make it two months before it quit working. Would check water and be iced up. Take heater out and would get hot with air check the next morning iced over again. Will try a different brand next time

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disappointed Bought this product last year needless to say didnt last the season. Quit after about 2 months. very poor construction and cheaply made. Save your money!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So-so Bought a couple of these. They do a good job keeping the ice out, however they're suppose to be thermostatically controlled & I don't think they shut off as much as they should when the water is warm.
Date published: 2010-02-22
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disapointed This product stopped working after one half season of use. It never floated very well, and even though it was supposed to be safe for plastic tanks, melted a spot on my tank when it kept floating over to the edge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works I couldn't be any happier with this ice chaser. I hooked this little guy up on a large trough that had in inch of ice and within 30 minutes, half of the ice was gone along with the headache of busting ice for the horses. I will definitely buy another if something were to happen to this one or for another trough. You can't go wrong with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! We bought 3! It sure beats breaking ice several times a day!!!

How would it work in a 150gal plastic in-ground pond with algae eaters which require keeping heated water at 40 degrees throughout the winter weather in north Texas area?

Asked by: fishlover
It won't keep a constant 40 degree temperature. However, it would typically vary between 35-50 degrees.

If water runs out will it burn out?

Asked by: Ice queen
Eventually, yes. You need to keep water in the tank.

What do you recommend for an 800 gal tank?

Asked by: Margo913
You would need to use at least two deicers for this. Preferably 1500 watt units like the H-419.

Will this product work with 100 foot of underground 14/2 wiring and a 15 amp breaker?

Asked by: Bill81

Just got this product and my livestock don't seem to be drinking from water now, we've actually lost a goat since we got it and our 2 horses act like they want to drink from the black rubber trough but don't. Any chance of stray votage, just purchased it

Asked by: nictrac
Possibly. Are you using an extension cord? If so, that could cause issues. Also, could come from the wiring at your property or interference from electric fence. Have you had an electrician look at it? They can test voltage at the outlet and also with the unit. You can also exchange the unit for a different one to see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, then it's definitely something in your wiring.

What would the monthly cost very at

Asked by: Joeboc804
It will vary based upon the cost of electricity from your electric company, as well as how many hours per day the unit is operating. To calculate, simply take the cost/kilowatt hour from your electric company, for example $.10/kwh x 1.25 (which is the wattage of the unit converted to kilowatts) x number of hours/day it runs (8 for example). That would be $1/day or $30/month.
