Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lousy heater Lasted a week and quit working. Took it out of the pond, cleaned it off and returned to the pond worked another week and quit again. Not going to keep taking it out every week. Not worth the money looking for a different mfg. hear K&H are much better will try one of them, Hopefully will work better than this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORKS WELL, LONG LASTING I bought my last one of these 5 years ago. I use them in an old claw foot tub that I use for cattle water. There has always been at least some open water even in zero temps. I use the heater from November through early march most years and store in between.. Never a problem other than it quit floating a couple of years ago. A few days ago a cow climbed into the tub and stepped all over the heater and broke the plastic off it. After being trampled it finally quit working. I'll replace the old one with one just like it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible I ran this heater for one month and it stopped working. I am guessing it shorted out because it produced zero heat.
Date published: 2018-01-30
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great. Just what I expected. I have had it in zero degree and still a little hole for the cows to drink.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeping Pond from Freezing 250 gallon pond kept from freezing at 5 below overnights and below freezing for 2 weeks. Solid construction. Floats fine. Cord epoxied into aluminum casting and protected by spring coil around it for full length. Cord length ample. Satisfied.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a good purchase I had a 1000w floating deicer for metal stock tanks with the exposed elements that could not quite keep my 150 gal metal tank unfrozen at 3 degrees. I could not find a 1250w or 1500w with exposed heating elements. I purchased this 1250w deicer and my old 1000w at same temp did a better job. Took ut back replaced it and same result. I found a 1250w steel tank deicer with the exposed elements and it did the job, Go figure, can not recommend this product in very cold weather. Go with exposed elements, in my experience they work lots better

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ok for a year I have purchased 2 of them . They worked good for the 1st winter.I noticed the 2nd year the horses was scared to get a drink. Checking the heater there is 2 spot that rust on it bad. I think they put a short in the water when it rust. Because when I put a new type of heater in the tank and the horses found out they wound not get shocked they drank a ton of water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from piece of garbage Bought this to keep my horse trough open. Came out this morning (6 degrees) and after being plugged in ALL night, trough was completely frozen over except an inch around this "heater". Absolutely do NOT buy!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Only made it till January before it died, w live in Michigan so we have a lot of cold days left
Date published: 2017-01-14
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of junk! Kind of worked for about a month (Dec) but when it got really cold in January it stopped entirely. Now it's frozen in about of 8 inches of ice and I have to start over - after I chop all the ice out of the tank. Till then I'm carrying the horses water in a five gallon bucket, not fun when it's this cold...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product Been using these for the last ten years... They typically last two to three seasons of being drug around, in and out of barn, unplugged and frozen then plugged back in. Have lasted longer when properly cared for.. Very rugged, very dependable.. used in rubber tubs, plastic tubs, and even an old bathtub used as a water trough.. never had an issue... An awesome product I will continue to buy

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This heater is a piece of junk! This heater is a piece of junk, don't waste your money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap piece of trash Bought mine a month ago and worked great until the temps hit the lower 20's then it died, now I have to go buy yet another tank de-icer and break this one out since its frozen in a good 2 inches of ice in my tank. Thankfully I have a spring in the field for my horses.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible!! I purchased this for a small tank. Figured it would be great with my blind mini. It was froze solid yesterday and again today. I actually though my husband unplugged it. It wasn't. The ice was all the way around it. Can't return it b/c I do not have my receipt. Don't waste your money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Horrible! do not buy. Had to buy a sinking deicer about a week after trying this floater. didn't do a good job at all.
Date published: 2016-12-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! even for curious fillys! i bought this for my 150 gal rubbermaid tank and it works great! i just leave it plugged in and it keeps the water fresh. i havent had any of my horses receive any harm from it! even my curious 2 year old. love it!
Date published: 2016-01-14
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Worked for two weeks. Only 3-4 freezing days and it quit. Save your money.
Date published: 2016-01-12
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Frozen in an inch of ice! I purchased this de-icer about three weeks ago in preparation for the winter. It's been a very mild December, so while it worked on a few cold evenings, it hasn't been tested by the weather on a regular basis. The other morning it was 26 degrees and the de-icer was frozen in an inch of ice in my 15 gallon water trough! Having discarded the receipt and packaging, and with rust already forming on the metal, I called the manufacturer rather than going back to TSC. The woman was helpful, didn't seemed overly surprised by my problem, and was happy to send me a replacement. Reading the other reviews, I wonder how long the replacement will last. If it doesn't last long, I will cut my losses and get another model...this time reading the reviews first!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Third heater just stopped, Last two didn't make it through the winter before replacing them. The one I have now made it 2 months last winter and pluged it in again because the water was freezing that was two days ago no I need to chink it out of the ice and replace it with some thing that works
Date published: 2015-11-27
Rated 1 out of 5 by from junk... I bought 2 of theses for my garden ponds and one day they work and other days they don't..more not working days than working..spend most days frozen in the ice....
Date published: 2015-02-23
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Keep your receipt I bought this 14 months ago. Kept it in the plastic water tank, but unplugged it. The wire cord guard rusted after the first season. This is not a big problem. The big problem is that it only lasted 14 months. One of the reasons I chose this model over another was the 3 year warranty. It's an acceptable plastic tank water heater as long as you don't expect to get more than a season out of it.

How would it work in a 150gal plastic in-ground pond with algae eaters which require keeping heated water at 40 degrees throughout the winter weather in north Texas area?

Asked by: fishlover
It won't keep a constant 40 degree temperature. However, it would typically vary between 35-50 degrees.

If water runs out will it burn out?

What do you recommend for an 800 gal tank?

Asked by: Margo913
You would need to use at least two deicers for this. Preferably 1500 watt units like the H-419.

Will this product work with 100 foot of underground 14/2 wiring and a 15 amp breaker?

Just got this product and my livestock don't seem to be drinking from water now, we've actually lost a goat since we got it and our 2 horses act like they want to drink from the black rubber trough but don't. Any chance of stray votage, just purchased it

Asked by: nictrac
Possibly. Are you using an extension cord? If so, that could cause issues. Also, could come from the wiring at your property or interference from electric fence. Have you had an electrician look at it? They can test voltage at the outlet and also with the unit. You can also exchange the unit for a different one to see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, then it's definitely something in your wiring.
