Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this de icer I bought this not even a month ago and it has already malfunctioned, keeps tripping gcfi plug all of a sudden. Now I have a koi pond full of fish and it's about to get really cold here. Don't waste your money!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worked okay Did not keep water from freezing except for an area smaller than a plastic kids pool.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from ice-chaser I put this product in our Koi pond, along with 2 bubblers, it didn't do too well as the ice formed around it except for a 1/2 " circle

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great Bought this for a small water garden I have with 6 gold fish. I had paid over $90 for a pond water heater at the fish store but it failed after one season. I was looking for another heater and found this one at Tractor Supply. Great size and price so I purchased it. This kept our pond ice free all winter even with our temperatures below zero for many weeks. The fish hang around the heater so they like it too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed I bought this product end of December 2014, it has stopped working in less than two months. I would not recommend buying this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Happy I live in Birmingham, AL and drove to Huntsville to buy this item because stores near me don't carry it. We have had two nights when it was cold enough to freeze and both times my 250 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank has frozen over completely. Both times the de-ices is frozen in solid. This tank is used as a pond is right next to and sheltered by my house. I am not happy that my fish are frozen in when I trusted this product to prevent it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Choose another. I purchased this heater last winter and it worked well for two months. After the cold snap, it was put into storage (after it was drained and prepped to be stored) for this year. I had hoped that it would be fine and keep my tank warm this winter. That isn't happening. Do not plan to get several winters from this deicer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY Horrible product. Bought two and they both lasted about a month, so it was not an isolated incident. Save your money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Reliability I have used these for five or six years. They usually last a season or two before they give out. This year (2013-14) they are very unreliable. I have gone through six so far and now I can't find any tank heaters around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast delivery I purchased a pond heater as a gift for a client. It was delivered in two days and the client was very pleased!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not recommended The product stated it would not harm plastic tanks, and it did melt the tank. It tended to float to the side of the tank and come to rest. It also broke after one season's use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Automatic Pond De-Icer I don't have many hobbies other than the koi and goldfish in my small outdoor pond which is about 3 X 5 feet. I usually bring them indoors for the winter up here in this cold part of Michigan, but this past spring, I thought I would try them in the larger pond which is 30 X 35 feet. (Any large fish wintered over, would die because of the built-up gasses in the pond, so I knew I would have to do something if I wanted to keep fish in there throughout the winter months). The fish did so well, I kept them in there and decided I would have to winter them outdoors because there was no way to gather them up for indooor winterization. I did a lot of research to see what would be needed to keep them alive out there in the big pond during the winter while it was solidly frozen over. It was either aeration, a hole kept open for dangerous gases to escape, or a combination of both. I chose to keep a hole in the ice with the use of a pond de-icer which I purchased at TSC. The de-icer is about 7-inches wide, is round and the top is tough plastic, and it floats. (It also has a long 3 year warranty which is great). It keeps a 12-inch circle free of ice. It seems to be doing the job just fine as even on some below zero temps, I would go out there to check and I saw my fish swimming around near the de-icer (probably looking for the sun and some fresh air), looking very healthy. Now my mind is at ease.... I was a bit concerned whether the de-icer would hike up my electric bill, or not, but I barely see a difference in the amount of electricity used for the 1250 watt de-icer. Also, I had looked all over for a de-icer and found that TSC had a very well-made one for the least amount of money, too. My fish thank you and I thank you, too!

Is there any way you can check the unit is working????

Asked by: Judy33
Yes. Unplug the unit and place it in a freezer for 1 hour. Remove from freezer and then plug it in to a working outlet. Feel the silver heating element to see if it heats up. If it does, it's working.

What are the on & off Temperature settings

Asked by: white1
All of our deicers, including this one, turn on when the water temp falls below 35 degrees F. Then they heat up to their pre-set internal thermostat temperature and shut off automatically. The shut off is not related to water temp, only the turn on point. Factors affecting how long it will take include the volume of water in the pond and how cold it is outside. The larger the pond and the colder it is outside, the longer the deicer will operate before shutting off.
