Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does Not Last We are on our second one of these, first one didn't last a full winter. It work as advertised, keeps the water from freezing except in extreme temps and/or winds. Problem is the fill port is on the bottom, so every time it needs filled the unit need tipped over twisting the cord. After a month or two in cold weather the outer insulation on the cord cracked and broke. Not good around water so we never plugged it in again. Used it in the summer as it still worked for watering but by July it dry rotted and cracked, so was useless after that. Bought another one for this winter because there aren't very many options out there, hopefully it lasts for the winter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works but it’s a huge pain in the butt to fill up. This works but to fill it up you have to unplug it, haul it inside to fill it up, then haul it back outside and attempt to flip it back over without spilling it everywhere. It’s so heavy and cumbersome. I returned it and bought a galvanized heated platform and put smaller lighter water buckets on that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from keeps quail water from freezing Cannot fill to the top with water as the tank is not stiff enough to hold that much water.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product This works well. The only change I would make is to make the fill port on the bottom bigger so it could be filled easier. We usually use a bucket to fill it and it's a challenge.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from makes life easier I bought this water heater recently so haven't used the heating element yet, but I am sure it is going to save several trips to the coop each day during the winter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked Well We used this waterer for our 10 chickens this past winter. It did it’s job of keeping the water from freezing which made our job a lot easier. It held enough water to last them two full days and I took it apart completely every other week for a through cleaning as alge growth will form.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peace of mind! So good not having to go out in the elements to refill iced-over waterers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pricey I got it home to find it had a crack in the water tray. It was the only one they had so I had to repair it epoxy. Works great after repair.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Initially fine, but bad long term For the price i was expecting this to last me a at least a few seasons before repair. First winter was fine, a few weeks into the second season of use, the cord broke. Of course just out of warranty they tried to sell me a replacement for Half the cost of a new unit plus shipping. I ended up opening it up and fixing the wires myself, still works alright.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not buy again Leaks most of its water out anytime it’s not exactly level. Base is grid pattern which picks up all manner of dirt etc from ground. Clear design promotes algae growth in warmer months.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from TERRIBLE. Bought this yesterday in hopes that it would keep the chicken water from not freezing in 2 degree weather. Only the outer edges of it froze, the rest was thawed. Dropped it once and it shattered, the plastic is not strong on the red part. It claims to be easier to fill with the water going in through the bottom, but that actually makes it worse and is NOT helpful. The water once filled pours right out. The way the entire things screws together is extremely difficult to put on. Would not recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hard to keep closed while full of water I thought this heated waterers were going to be great, I bought 2, but I was so wrong! They do not lock down and they come apart when full of water! Plus you fill them from the bottom side, the hole is a small hole for a water hose, but hello it's winter! And if you try to fill it by opening it, it takes FOREVER to try to get it back together. And hopefully you have it right or it comes apart! Its a great ice maker for you barn floor! Will never buy again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product I have had this heated watered for two winters now and it still works like a champ! I have seen reviews where it leaks or doesn't hold water. I had that issue a few times and recommend making sure the filler plug is pushed in good and tight all the way around. That was my issue and now I check it's pushed in tight and haven't had any more issues. After two winters of use it's still going strong! I recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great investment I bought this water heater just before the weather started getting cold. Just used it and it’s awesome! Keep the water from freezing. Love it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So so ok I bought this last year, last winter. I did not have any problems Dec 31, 2018 we had horrible weather and very cold with wind chill to -20... I went out to check my girls and I notice a frozen waterfall out of the watered and the top of the water was frozen so I had to break it away to get to the drinking water. I went out today to refill the waterer, I plugged it in and turned around to give them food. I turn back and all of the water has run out. Some how the container got a little crack in it in the bad weather. I thought these were suppose to hold up in the cold cold weather. Needless to say I’m disappointed so now I have to run out and get another one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This waterer is fantastic I have been using two of them for over one year and I have never had an issue with either one of them. I also have never had one of them freeze up either. Great product that has been field tested...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Winter watering It is in the just ok area. It holds water for about a day with only six chickens. I thought it should hold water at least two days. as far as keeping the water from freezing it has not been cold enough yet. The first one I had did real good. After two years I droped it and knocked a hole in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to use I have bought three of these and all three have proven themselves above and beyond.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great at keeping the water from freezing! This is the second one of these I have purchased. Saves me a lot of hassle and work when temperatures are below freezing. My only problem is that the cord is attached to the bottom so it takes some maneuvering to take it off and put it back on and hanging it back up without dragging the plug thru chicken house "stuff"

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great concept Great concept, and once I took the skinny little plastic handle off and attached a heavier chain directly to the top of the bucket it works great. When it is full of water the plastic handle gives out and falls . I also wish It had bit longer of a electric cord. I bought this particular heated water feeder because I wanted a hanging one for less mess. I want another.... but $50. Is pricey for having to modify it to hold the weight of its water.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product for winter! Good Product. Had to buy a funnel & bucket for filling thru the small hole but it works. No frozen water!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heated waterer Second one I bought over the past three years. Dependable piece of equipment. Handle cracked after one season and replaced with a homemade metal one. Container cracked after second season as plastic became brittle. Wish I could just buy a replacement white plastic container as the original base is still working.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works It's been approximately a month now we've had several freezing nights it seems to be working just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from well made makes chicken keeping easy in the cold winter months!
Date published: 2018-12-08
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Makes a mess! Heater works well but it does not lock down. Just about every time, the wright of the water will pressure the top to become separated from the bottom and it makes a mess. If they would make one that snaps down or locks in place, I would buy it. Those flimsy little slide locks are worthless against the weihht of a full dispenser.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Nice to have water for my chicks .Awesome product.
Date published: 2018-12-02
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Keeps water thawed but has design flaws. It does keep the water from freezing, however, it is not very large and therefore needs filled often. The bottom does not lock into place well and it often comes apart when I go to flip it right side up. This is rather frustrating especially in the cold weather.. which is obviously when you are using it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor product. I bought this item a couple months ago because the last one I had stopped working to keep water from freezing. First time I used it it froze up. I thought maybe it wasn't plugged in correctly. So tried a different socket and it still didn't work. No more buying products from Tractor Supply for me that's for sure.

How does it fill from the bottom?  Is there a plug? My impression is that you don’t have to unscrew the top from the base?

Asked by: Anita60
Yes, there is a rubber plug. With the top reservoir securely fastened to the red base, you simply turn it upside down and place on a flat surface. Then you can use anything from 2 liter bottles, gallon jug, or a funnel and a large bucket to pour water into the reservoir. Once it's filled, simply plug back the hole, turn it over carefully, and set it back down on the ground.

One review says it can't be used with an extension cord, and another review says it can. Which is correct..?

Asked by: MeghansChickens
Yes it can be used, a 3 conductor 8-10 gauge outdoor extension cord is recommended for safest use.
