Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addistion to potting mix and for Aquariums EP Minerals Safety Absorbent is great for adding to plant potting mixes to make them freer draining for better aeration of plant roots. Many Bonsai people use it. I also use it alone for starting plant cuttings and growing some aqutic plants. I also use this in planted aquariums - can be capped with gravel or sand or used alone.

Can this be use as a Bonsai component such as Turface blended with Diatomaceous Earth & Pine bark? Or is the same as Diatomaceous Earth?

Asked by: 9992323
This could be used in the blend such as the turface product, but it is not Diatomaceous Earth. This product is montmorillinite clay that has been calcined and has less than 1% moisture.

Can this product be applied to the outdoor oil spill while it is raining.

We do not recommend it. It can work but the rain may over-saturate it causing you to use more of the product.

What are the size and color of the particles? What does this look like?

Asked by: herbert666
Response from manufacturer: "The 7941 Safety Absorbent product is produced under a 4 x 20 mesh sizing. The absorbent is montmorillonite clay, and will vary slightly in color from time to time due to the section of the vain it is mined from. The majority of the time, it will appear to be a dark tan, but it could show some signs of gray from time to time, and this is due to the clay being pulled from the lower part of the vain where it typically will be more of a gray tint."
