Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price and healthy birds Both our chickens and the ducks love this. Crumble is just right for the young ducklings to digest easily and everyone is growing up very well, good sizes and healthy looking. If fed to your ducklings make sure to supplement with niacin, which I do by sprinkling in some brewer's yeast.

I have 5 chickens that are 12 weeks and 1 is 20 weeks. Should I continue to feed them the grower finisher feed. Or should I buy the layers pellets and put both  grower/ finisher & pellets mixed together

Asked by: Gola
The recommendation is staying on a starter/grower until all chicks are at least 18 weeks, or they have laid their first egg. At that point all can be switched to layer pellets, if you want to add a supplement for the one older hen, oyster shell could be added to help promote shell strength.

I got a new batch of chicks this spring. Is it okay to feed this to my older chickens until the chicks can go on the layer feed?

Asked by: SassyShadow123
You can feed the Starter to the older chickens but you should be careful they don’t gain too much weight because it will make it harder for the hens to lay eggs.

Is this a crumble or pellet? If a crumble, is there a grower pellet? I would like to transition to pellets before giving layer feed.

Asked by: Sandy63
This product is a crumble. Feeding directions state that birds intended for egg production should be switched to DuMor Layer 16% two to four weeks prior to onset of egg production. There is not a pelleted grower available in the DuMor line. The recommendation is to make the transition over a 7-10 day period. Start out by sprinkling the new feed on top of their current feed and then start to increase the amount of new feed in with the old feed so the birds recognize what you want them to eat. A good rule of thumb is a few days of 25% new 75% old, a few days of 50/50 and a few days of 75% new 25% old. If you are going from crumbles to crumbles, you can go pretty quickly, but if you are moving from crumbles to pellets, it may take a few more days to get the birds to recognize the feed form. Be patient, they will figure it out.

After 10 weeks of age which product do you recommend to feed for my chickens?

Asked by: Steffi 11
Chicks should stay on chick starter/grower until first egg. Once they have laid first egg they can be switched to an adult feed.

Does this float on a lake or pond?

Asked by: Lkw0719
It isn’t made to float on the water and probably will sink quickly. Needs to go with a duck product that will float.
