Dirty Hand Tools 3 in. Chipper/Shredder with Kohler Engine, 106817 is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 79.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fair deal for the money Easy to put together for the most part. The gas tank was broken on the bottom and I didn’t discover it it until filling up the first time. Tank was easy to fix with a patch kit but it had a poor designe in how the plastic tank bolts to the engine. The chipper works well for small trimmings and makes a good mulch for the compost pile. Be carful when feeding the chipper outlet jams with leaves and pulp easily. A wider outlet for the chips/mulch to exit would be nice. When you do have a jam in the feeder it can be difficult to pull out what has jammed it up. It is best to shred or mulch when cuttings are green.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed We used the Dirty Hands chipper for the first time this weekend. The 3 inch chipper can handle up to 2 inch limbs. It pulls the limbs into the machine without requiring the user to push the limbs into the blades. It chips nicely for about 2 feet of the limb, and then the machine overloads and shuts itself off. It's not possible or practical to pull back on the limb to prevent the machine from quitting. The need to restart the machine every few feet of branch length is time consuming. W have a lot of storm debris after two hurricanes in as many weeks, as well as many trees to cut on our property. We are disappointed the machine does not live up to its advertising, and we will be returning it to the store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for the price! I bought this last month after Hurricane Florence. It was the last chipper that anyone had in our area. I was weary of it being a brand I didn't recognize. But the Kohler engine is easy to start and the chipper never missed a lick as long as you didn't overload it. I was very impressed!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Worth the Money Bought this to chip simple branches that had small branches attached to them and it worked horrible. Will not chip branches unless they are straight branches with no other growth on them. It also jams very easily and was very useless. Used it twice for about 30 minutes because it was pretty worthless. Such a waste of money. Hoping we can return this, too expensive for what it doesn’t do.

If I have this delivered to a store near me, how much more assembly will be required? Will the wheels and axle be already assembled? I will need to be able to unload it from my truck and pull it by hand to where any final assembly ( if required )will be

Asked by: Dooly
Hello Dooly, assembly is broken into 6 section and no more than 4 steps per section. Wheels are not attached when shipped out to stores.

Would it be possible to attach a hose to the discharge flange to direct the discharge across a targeted area. Looking for an efficient method to spread cypress mulch. Does the discharge have sufficient pressure to push material thru a 6 to 10 ft length?

Asked by: JosephB
Hello JosephB while it is possible that a hose could be attached to this model, there is no kit for that, and discharging the mulch from a hose is currently not a rated application for this Chipper/Shredder.

How easy does this start?? I am disabled and can't pull like I used to.

Asked by: Medic954
Hello, The chipper is relatively easy to pull. If a standard lawn mower were a 5 out of 10 then this is about a 7 out of 10. Hope that helps. -DHT
