Rated 5 out of 5 by from 'Love this mower! After doing LOTS of online searches re the best, reasonably priced walk behind mowers - Cub Cadet kept showing up via rave reviews, high ratings and happy people on YouTube videos. So I decided to finally stop buying used mowers and invest in something that will last and! make me happy. This is the one! Easy to set up, starts right up with a pull or two and! both handles well and mows like a dream! Now it takes me less time and I am much less wore out after! This sixty year old woman no longer dreads mowing my lawn!! So yes, thank you Cub Cadet and thank you Tractor Supply! =)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome i didn't want to write a review until i tried this mower out for about a year it starts on the first pull 90% of the time i tried to bog it down but it just mowed right through i had it stored in my shed over the winter and winterized it then this spring it fired up like it was new the only thing that i don't like is the bagger it seems to collect a lot of trimmings but there is a lot of debris i have to clean out from the edges which is not a problem i just leave it on the ground and mow it again

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Rear bagger extremely poor design I purchase this mower at the end of the season in October 2017, because of early snow I didn't get a chance to use it util spring of 2018 ( in North Dakota that's the end of April, 1st of May). I had a lot of leaves and debris to pick up, and was looking forward to using my new mower with the bagger attachment. What a joke, every time you go to empty the bag, the debris comes out of the bag and lands in the plastic pin and groove assembly in the mower and plugs up under the hinge of the back door that's supposed to seal the top of the bag. unless you clean this out each time you can't reset the bag in the right position and you won't get a good seal between the door and the top of the bag and it'll blow debris at you. I called and talked to customer service for Cub Cadet and they told me they never heard of such a thing, they wanted me to take it to a service repair center where they could determine if anything was wrong. I could see that this is just a poor design there's nothing wrong with the mower. If you don't have a perfect lawn thats all grass and ypu unfortunately also pick up dirt, you will fight with this bagger to get a good seal so it doesn't throw grass clippings and dirt out the top at you, if you do not meticulously clean the groove area that the pin rest in and underneath the hinge of the back door. to be honest it starts and runs good, and picks up leaves and grass clippings, just has a very poor design for the bag.

What kind of fuel does it use?

Asked by: Tootie55
Hello Tootie55, The unit can take regular 87 octane fuel. The owner's manual for the unit may advise "87 or higher octane", but you would need to check for your specific unit. We do recommend stabilizer when using regular fuel or ethanol-free fuel to avoid having to use stabilizer. We typically recommend ethanol content of less than 10%. Thank you for your question!

Why is the blade engaged all the time, can it be disengaged?

Asked by: Jacque62
Hello Jacque62. On the Cub Cadet SC 500 Z Mower, the blade control is attached to the upper handle of the mower. You depress and squeeze this handle to operate the unit and release it to stop the engine and blade. There is a warning in the owners manual to never attempt to bypass its operations because the blade control is a safety device. Thank you for your question.
