Cannon Safe Silica Gel Dehumidifier is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from BobD These canisters are a bargain. I bought one from Tractor Supply about a year ago and decided to replace two aging non-Cannon canisters. If you've got guns or other valuables, you can't go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Functional - Gets the Job Done These are a great investment, and work well in safes. You can also use them in closets and other areas. They save money in the long run, as unlike things like Damp Rid, where you throw them away once they have absorbed moisture, these you just put in the oven for 3-4 hours and they 'recharge'. The silica beads are blue when fresh, and turn pink when they need to be dried out. Simple, easy, and effective. Worthwhile investment. Like another reviewer, I also prefer these to the electric dehumidifying rods. While these are great for protecting weapons, I also use them in a safe with backup hard drives, cameras, and electronics, and also in closets to protect things like high end purses and belts from moisture. I live in the humidity capitol of the nation, and have been happy with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is the bomb My Safes are in my basement which is cooler than the rest of the house and as a result I ended up putting "golden rods" in all of them, two in the big one. When I noticed that one was "burnt out" I bought one of these. I have replaced all my "rods" with "Cans"

Are you supposed to remove the plastic cover over the view window in the center of the top section

Asked by: Wild Rebel

How do you remove the plastic

Asked by: Happydays69
Pop off the small metal circular ring around the plastic piece with a skinny object such as a flathead screw driver. Save the plastic piece. Put it in the oven to reactivate and then put the plastic cover and metal ring back on.

How often do you have to dry out this dehumidifier? I am thinking of putting it in a 40 gun safe.

Asked by: Cass12
The location of the safe will play into how often the dehumidifier needs to be replaced. If your home is located in a humid location such as Florida it will need to be dried out more often than if it is in a dry location like Las Vegas.

Is this product recommended for the Cannon Super Wide 80-Gun Safe?

The silica gel dehumidifier is good for spaces up to 57 cubic feet. The wide body safe falls within this recommendation!

How long should you put it in the oven at what temperature?

Asked by: karonA
When the indicating beads turn pink, the silica gel is becoming saturated and should be reactivated. To reactive, place the entire unit (do not disassemble) in 325 Fahrenheit oven for at least 3 hours. Let the unit cool enough to handle, then return to the safe. Note: the indicating beads will gradually turn blue again.

For gun safe placement in a garage without temperature control, would this product eliminate moisture enough to prevent damage (to firearms) during major temperature changes?

Asked by: ProNRA
As long as the area is well ventilated, this product should work fine.
