Can you put too much dye in your pond?

Asked by: JJ2233
The water will be a deeper shade, and possibly opaque. Over time, rainfall will dilute the color to the point where it will all be gone. It can also be diluted by adding more water. If emptying the pond is required, the water should be flushed into soil beds – please avoid letting over dyed water get into surface drains or streams. Any water getting into a stream or drain will not be harmful, but anyone seeing colored water flowing by may report this “pollution” to the authorities for investigation. In our experience, if you get it on your hands it will stain temporarily, but it is a food grade dye, so fades/washes fairly easily from your hands and other areas. If using a higher concentration of dye it may result in slight discoloration of surrounding stones and water features which will also fade and be diluted with rainfall. Here is some more information on colorants: The Pond colorants Bioverse supplies to its customers are made in the USA, and are the same colorant chemistry used in foods such as ice creams, candies, and beverages globally. The same colorants are also used in cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, etc. as well as in many industrial applications. In a recreational lake or pond setting, colorants are equally as safe as the aforementioned applications. As a precaution, it is recommended to allow the colorant to disperse fully into the body of water, usually within 12-24 hours. Boating, swimming, fishing and recreational use of lakes and ponds that are treated with food quality dyes are as safe as a cosmetic color applied to skin or colored foods consumed. Sometimes pond colorants help with keeping the pond clearer. Pond colorants will discourage the growth of unwanted organic weeds & green matter by reducing the sunlight (UV rays) penetrating the clear water. Our colorants work well with Healthy Ponds dispensers and supplements. Colorant will reduce the sunlight, keep the water cooler, and still allow the enjoyment of the clean water.
