Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sure Tite Lids are Horrible! I just finished canning 12 quarts of sauerkraut using a new box of Ball Wide Mouth Quart jars. Out of the dozen I did, four did NOT seal thanks to the new lids. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with lids not sealing and I've been canning more years than I can count. The water bath was full of juice from the sauerkraut! I am beyond disappointed with these lids and will look for something else in the future. While the jars are still great, I can't afford to put all of that work, time, and expense into canning my own food if I have to throw half of it away!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from defective I just got a box of wide-mouth lids and only 2 of the lids in the box were good. On the other 10 lids the button just stays down when you test it, instead of popping back up. I guess they are still usable so long as they pass the fingertip test (they don't easily lift off the jar) but what is the point of a 'safety button' if it doesn't actually tell you if the jar is sealed?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not so sure about the new lids this year I have had more sealing problems than ever .. now I still love BALL but I do not love the new lids .. I have had plenty not seal on the first try or buckle under the ring .. something is just a bit off with the new seals .. but everything else you guys make is great.. I would rate everything else awesome.. just please do something about the quality of these lids .. out of say 12 there is always 1 that doesn't work .. but still better than all other brands

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Your new and improved lids I am extremely dissatisfied with the "new and improved" lids that came with the new canning jars I purchased. While pressure canning 7 quarts of product at 10# of pressure, for 40 minutes, I had one explosion inside the canner at 23 minutes and when I got to the end, and opened the canner, one lid and ring had blown off it's bottle and there were 2 other lids that were severely crimped. That is a fail. I saw below that you said that your lids are guaranteed for 4 to 5 years. That is not what it said in an insert in the box of bottles. "Guaranteed for UP TO 18 MONTHS", and that is an improvement. I suggest you go back to "tied and true", or do you want to destroy peoples ability to preserve food?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New & Improved - Fail The new & improved lids are very disappointing. I'm 62 years old, have been canning for a lot of years, so this isn't inexperience talking. I have never had so many lids fail. I won't be using Ball or Kerr lids anymore. I for one can't afford This high of a failure rate. You need to go back to the old lids or actually improve them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sure Tight Lids These new "sure tight" lids seem cheap. I agree with a couple of previous comments already made. They seem to crinkle and buckle in my water bath. Do not like...it has ruined a couple of jars of pickles as well as relish. Most folks "home preserve" to try and save a few bucks, and try not to waste good food! I see comments about not being made "differently" but I would have to disagree. First, I have canned for a couple of years now and have NEVER had these sorts of issues before & for two, if they are not made differently, why then, do all of the new boxes of jars that I recently purchased say, "Now made with "new" sure tight lids"??? :-(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Working great Ball lids are working just fine for me. Of around 16 dozen jars I've canned this summer with Ball lids (water bath and pressure canning), I've had only two jars fail to seal properly, which was likely due to me being careless with head space. After processing, I wash my jars and remove the bands -- haven't any trouble with rust despite storing in a damp basement, even after a couple years.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from quality? Have been canning for 30 years + and recently had two separate issues with jars that the bottom split cleanly off and ruined the whole water bath. These were new out of the box jars, hoping just a coincidence? Never had this with the older jars? We use several hundred jars per harvest season. Also is there new material being used in the lids? They certainly seem "cheaply made" vs. older boxes on hand when compared side by side. Had many that didn't hold a seam after a few days. Noticed an off brand a Walmart and going to try those since I am noticing these issues with your product. Your feedback on these two issues would be greatly appreciated.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from new Ball Jar Lids are AWFUL!! It seems like they have changed how the Ball Lids are manufactured and coated. These days they rust within a year! very disappointing for a company that used to be very trustworthy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Only one year on jars Your canned goods are now only good for one year. Read the small print on the box!! They ruined. The jar lids.
