Rated 5 out of 5 by from It actually works! I purchased this about two weeks ago for my mare. She was being hard to handle on the ground: highstrung, lots of nervous energy, and bolting. She was fine undersaddle, but the ground was a nightmare. Within the next two days she was back to my quiet, lovely mare. This product really worked (she's still on it and so much calmer and happier with 100% less nervous energy) I would definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! I use ViaCalm when I have to keep my horses in due to weather conditions in the winter. They all eat it with no problem, and it keeps them much more content to be kept in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well for most horses. dose can be adjusted long time user of this product. Use it for stallions, nervous broodmares and horses on their first trailer ride. I most often use the maximum four scoop dose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product Just adopted an 8 yo ottb mare from a local rescue. Very anxious when I first brought her to the barn. I started her on 2 scoops of Via Calm per feeding. Could tell a HUGE difference in her! Will definitely purchase again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rope horse We bought this a few weeks ago and have been very happy with the results. We were having issues with our horse rearing up in the box. Since using, the horse is less anxious and so far is not behaving the same. We hope this continues to work and is why the 4 star ranking is not 5. Time will tell.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from helps Works a little on my high strung mustang. But it's only been 3 weeks and may need to build up in her system

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Via Calm review I have a Arabian mare who recently hurt herself and has been on stall rest for over 2 months and still has prop a month or so to go. She has become very high strung from being in and not being able to get out playing and kicking up her heels. I tried other supplements to take the edge off but nothing worked like this supplement did. It has a great taste and she loves it which is good because she can be hard to please with supplement taste. I have also started a younger quarter horse on this supplement as he is getting ridden and trained after being off for several months with no riding. Hes a good boy but this takes the edge off of him and makes it for a safer ride. There is nothing in here as far as im aware that is banned in the showing circuit so it is a go to for me. This is a supplement that many of the riders and horses in the barn have been adding to their regime because of the success and price of this supplement. I recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap supplement to help calm a horse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I cannot recommend this product enough!!! It was like night and day with my mare. She is calm as can be and you can do anything with/to/or around her at home, but the older she got the more skiddish she would get when at horse shows (Backwards, I know. She was great at shows as a baby). I started feeding this a week before a show and she was incredibly calm and worked wonderfully for me!! We had no spooks or blow ups. We ended up reserve champion in our division for the show. I very very highly recommend this product!!! I will definitely be purchasing again when I run out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works! I have a mare - that's probably enough description right there - anyway, she is very hyper. I had tried several very expensive supplements that didn't work. Since ViaCalm was locally available, I tried it as I had nothing to lose. Within a week she was calmer, more focused and much more willing to work. I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So thankful I found it! Husband dogged me 8 months after getting g my new horse that I had bought a bad one! Kept telling me to get a different one. He would leap sideways or run backwards anytime he saw something out of place, move or at animals. He ripped my deck off my house when I wrongly assumed it was heavy enough to hold him hitched, had to keep him tied to the cemented corner post of pasture fence. Wouldn't stans for fly spray or brushing, hated being petted. Was 5 years old and had been broke out as a colt. I could see in his eyes he wanted to be a good horse, he just didn't know how. He was too jumpy to ride because even lead rope walks were dangerous. Walking near the road got him jumpy, seeing other new horses got him going, and seeing a girl on a bike caused him to freak out and run off backwards. Looked like too big a project! Happened to see vitacalm at TS, $10 was very reasonable so I got it. Later I read reviews all over the internet, most seemed to like it. I also researched the main ingredients L triptophan , calcium and magnesium. These are nutrients many horses lack in their diet. I gave him 2 scoops every morning, after 3 days he has his first test. Trying out new saddles and decided to walk him down to neighbors house on lead rope. Went by speeding cars, strange horses and running barking dogs. His head was up and eyes wide, but no jumoibg, ditch diving or running off. After 1 week, what a difference! I was even able to walk him into the barn and tie him to the stall for fly spray! Now I can safely train him. I may end up giving my boy magnesium and calcium directly, but thus helped me determine he WAS lacking in it. Not dopey, drugged, sluggish or anything. just focused and calm . He's turning into the hirse I knew he was! He is a 5 yr old half appy quarter horse who can now be trained for ranch work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I bought a 5 yr old appendix QH. He seemed to show more of his TB side and after breaking my ribs and a friend falling and breaking hers I had to do something. I saw his potential but needed a little extra help. When I went to find it it was always sold out which meant it had to be worth a try. Once I got my hands on it I was ready to try. It has the smell of yeast dough so when I put it in his food I added a little water. Within 2 weeks feeding it twice a day he was a totally different horse. He was amazing!!!! I even entered him into some three day eventing events and he acted like he has done them his whole life. I won't go without this. Just make sure you buy your next container early before you run out. People are finding out the secret to a happy horse and rider:)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works GREAT Don't be afraid to triple dose half hour before first few uses...then back off over time. It seems to work wonders on horses with nervous tension and anxiety, but it won't do a thing for a straight out wilful horse. Have used it to ease horses into new surroundings, while hauling, and sometimes for the first few rides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this stuff! Can't say enough good things about this product, I was very dubious at first, but figured for the price was worth trying. I have a gelding that gets stress diarrhea from travel and big events. Had him on this stuff for 2-3 weeks, then took him on a 45 min ride to a show, and he didn't even poop in the trailer, or in the ring, which is totally unheard of in the past. Easy to give and certainly worth a try for the cheap price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievable I bought Vita-Calm by chance and only because the salesperson said I could return it if it didn't work. I have a 3 yo TWH mare that is NOT a spooky horse by any means, however had only been in the trailer once when she was a yearling. I needed to trailer her on a 3 hour trip and even though I practiced trailering her locally to prep her for the long haul, she was very nervous. She would walk on and off the trailer with no problem, but when the trailer moved, she was scared. I was nervous about the long trip because I had an experience with a seasoned horse that had reared and gotten hung up in the hay manger, with shoes on and didn't want to go through that again. So off to Tractor Supply I went and luckily found Vita-Calm. I gave it to her one time an hour before taking her on a local run to test it out and unbelievably we were gone for 2 1/2 hours. I could have made the trip then and there. I was so pleased with this product that I suggested giving it to an Arabian mare on the farm that is a nervous nellie. One time, 45 minutes before riding her and you would have thought it was a different horse. You just have to try this stuff!! Best of all, the horses are bright, alert and so willing to concentrate on the task given them. No drug effect, no falling asleep, they are just calm, just enough to take the edge off. It's like the old adage, less is more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing product! I've had my Arab/Appy cross on this for a few months now and he was a wonderful horse until I ran out for a week! He's been terrible this week! Went from riding bareback with no spooks and no issues on the products and then to bolting like a wild creature and hurting myself and another person while off the product! Getting back on it today!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I had many doubts that this would really work. And I still am wondering about it but I have two Arabian geldings on it. Both in a few days seem different. I kept thinking it can't be the product already but I have had some of the best training sessions since I have been using if it is in my head and making me a better trainer or if it really does something for them I don't care:) I am keeping them them on the product. The both were former halter horses so everything plastic and tarp like, is a big deal. I am not say they magically have accepted these items but they seem more stable and less reactive then before. It is allowing me the time I need to show them these things are not going to hurt them. Riding them too..they seem less reactive and are not always looking for something to spook at. The real test will be some organized trail rides but so far very happy with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Results with this product I have been buying this for over a year, really calms spooky horses. I use it on my Paso and TW/Hackney. Unfortunately my local TS has stopped carrying it. Please bring it back to Athen, TN

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well I have an elderly ASB with Cushing's. He's always been silly and hard to keep in good weight, would run off on the lead, white around the eyes. Two years ago the neighbors blew off a bunch of fireworks on 4th July and he's well trained enough that he didn't take off but he did have me worried. Last year around the end of June I saw this stuff in the store and decided why not? It was my husband that commented how much nicer he was acting, not trying to pull his arms out of their sockets or run him over. Can't get a better recommendation than that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My OTTB is a NEW horse because of this.!! LOVE IT. This helped change my OTTB into the horse I knew she always was, and FINALLY after trying many different things, this is what I use and will continue to use. Helped my 4 year old with transitioning her from being off the track into a horse I can now handle without fear. I had a rotator cuff strain a few months after getting her from her pulling when closing a gate and "took off" in the indoor arena. Went through trials of different products, changed her grain, got rid of the shank chain, hired a trainer to help me transition her, and so on and so on. Then had rear leg injury (bone exposed) and was put on stall rest for 2 months (only allowed to hand walk). Anyways, I VERY HIGHLY recommed this product. It has helped take the edge off without sedating her and has made EVERTHING much more smooth. She stood for the daily wound cleansing and dressing changes, injections, etc and didnt get "wild" being on stall rest. I threw out the shank chain and now walk her on a loose lead line-including through gates, etc and she isnt "bug-eyed" about everything. This helped ME get my confidence in handling her back again without being fearful of injury. My only problem is that I went to 2 different Tractor Supply stores (each 20-30 min away) and they were out. Couldnt order online. So I ordered 5 as a raincheck and will "pre-order" this so I never run out again. Definitely worth a try. And I just dump on top of her grain with no special mixing needed and nothing special to get her to eat it. She now free-lunges loose in the indoor arena, turns out with other mares, and I FINALLY got on her and rode her (and yes-she stood still) and now in the process of teaching her leg cues and to neck rein. I have not a horse since I was a child but fell in love with her. I almost sold her as an instructor at another boarding facility refused to work with her saying she didnt feel "safe" (blah.blah.blah). I spent a LOT of money paying other people to work with her, but could no longer afford to do that. I bought this product, and now it is just me retraining her. I almost even sold her! I know it is not the product alone, and that is why I said it helped me too as knowing this was "helping" also caused me to be more calm and confident around her and it shows in the both of us. Anyways, I moved her to another facility, and using NO whips, No shank chain, and now she is CALM and now I am calm and confident too. What a godsend this product is-not only for her but for me as well. And it is affordable. And yes, I switched her feed and tried different stuff-but this is what FINALLY worked for me, and DEFINITELY WOULD RECOMMED giving this a try.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT PRODUCT This is a Great product. I had my doubts when I bought it,but it calmed my horse without making her actting like she was druged out. she still had all her wits about her and still had her energy. Normally she has water pouring off of her in new situations. this kept her calm and no sweat pouring off of her.

Do horses like the taste of this product?

Asked by: Razanbrandy
Yes, it is palatable.

Does it work as good when given as needed instead of daily?

Asked by: Mandyv
It depends on your intended use. If you have a horse which tends to be nervous, agitated or high-strung most of the time, it would be best to use daily. If your horse only tends to get nervous or agitated before events or other forms of excitement then use as needed is best.

It will have a calming effect on the animal. However, we recommend speaking with a licensed veterinary professional for comprehensive assistance with any issue.

If I give the 4 scoop max dose, how long do I have to wait before giving the next dose. Lets say I am going to an all day (9am-6pm) horse show and give this prior to leaving my house/barn. Can I give it again before we get on the road to go home?

Asked by: HMay
You can safely double or even triple the dose, without approaching a dangerous level of the key ingredients.

This product is highly discouraged for use in calves. The I-Tryptophan levels are not well tolerated by cattle, as it is absorbed it can cause oxidation of the lungs and Acute Bovine Pulmonary Edema Syndrome.
