Item Information

Delivering shocking power to your electric fence is easy when you attach a solar energizer to your line. This American FarmWorks 5-Mile Solar Charger features built-in solar panels and a 6-volt battery, allowing you to store up two-weeks of energy for the fence. Day or night, this AFW charger delivers all the containment power you'll need for your livestock operation. There's no need to plug in this energizer or lug batteries out into the field. Instead, this 0.10-joule output energizer electrifies up 5 miles of vegetation-free fencing -- that's enough to keep your animals in and, when properly designed, small predators and wildlife out. Use this American FarmWorks charger to manage horses, cattle, pigs and pets in the most remote locations with steel wire or poly fencing. Prior to use, be sure to charge the energizer by turning it to the off position and leaving it in the sun for 48 hours.

  • Energizes up to 5 miles of fence wire in moderate vegetation
  • Controls many types of livestock, horses, cattle, pigs and pets
  • Solar powered - ideal for remote locations with no access to electricity
  • Capable of operating day and night for up to 2 weeks with no sun
  • Solar power, 6-volt battery (included), 0.10 joule output, low impedance
  • Can be used with all types of electric fencing wire, including high tensile steel or aluminum wire, polywire, polyrope and polytape
  • "Fence OK" indicator light shows when charger is activated
  • Mounts quickly while offering a 360-degree rotation to allow solar panels to face the sun

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Prevents escape I have t post high tensile wire fencing with movable clips. One of my horses has figured out how to separate the wire and get to the other side. The solar 5 mile unit works well to deter this from happening.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well so far. It’s working like it’s supposed to, it’s not very powerful but it does the job. I’ve only had it for about a month and I’ve had no problems. We’ll see how it’s doing this time next year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solar Fence Charger Works great. Easy set up. Be sure to let it sit in the sun for a few days before powering on in order to fully charge the battery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! Works great for what we needed, which is just a small section of fence between two pastures. One of our horses is very mischievous and this is the only thing that keeps her off of the fence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solar fence charger Just put it up a couple weeks ago. Works fine. Called American Farm Works service technician about a fence wiring question. Actually answered the phone in a few seconds. Very knowledgable and helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works fine for me! Works great. Left out to charge for 2 days in the sun before use. Using on a smaller length of electro-net fencing for sheep. Using it with another charger to keep the netting hot. Only drawback is this doesn't come with clips or a way to hook the charger up to the fence like ones from Premier One. I did it with some lengths of wire and it works just fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy and affordable Set up, plug in, charge and play. Lightweight and simple. I bought this to save my bee hives from local daily escapee cows from the Neighbouring farm and as a deterrent for bears, deer or generally larger critters. Hardest part ofset up was driving the groundrods.. lol. Affordable too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use I bought this a month ago, it works well. The only thing I don't like is the connections for fence and ground, the fencer must sit lower to the ground as to not touch the fence and ground anywhere else to the fencer.

How many lines of output can be connected to this unit? I'm needing to run two lines around a 8 ft fence, one at top, one at bottom, to keep my deer in and keep predators out, mostly coyotes. Perimeter is approx. 1/2 mile.

Asked by: Bigdeerman
This energizer can power up to 5 miles of bare fence wire. Keep in mind that fencing setups can vary and that the voltage output seen on a fence is determined by many factors such as wire type, length of fence, grounding, etc. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-ZAREBA (1-855-592-7322) for additional assistance.

can you test the fence charger with a regular volt-meter?

Asked by: henleydogg
We recommend using a fence tester to test the energizer, fence line and grounding. A volt meter will not provide accurate results.

Does the 5 miles mean the length if wire you can electrify? So if I wanted to electrify closer to thr ground and the next level up do I need to double the amount I need? I'm trying to keep racoons from destroying everything.

Asked by: Ryan chicken
The mile rating is for the total length of wire that will be electrified.

When the unit is working, the light will flash an amber color. The light will not flash different colors whether it is charging or powering the fence.

we bought the 5 mile solar unit, IAW the directions, a 20 KV wire is used to connect energizer to both the ground and the fence, however you only have 30 KV wire. Will the 30 KV wire work?, what is the potential harm to the horse by using the 30 KV wire?

Asked by: Critterlover
A 30 KV wire can also be used. There would be no affect to a horse in using the 30 KV wire.
