Delivering shocking power to your electric fence is easy when you attach a solar energizer to your line. This American FarmWorks 5-Mile Solar Charger features built-in solar panels and a 6-volt battery, allowing you to store up two-weeks of energy for the fence. Day or night, this AFW charger delivers all the containment power you'll need for your livestock operation. There's no need to plug in this energizer or lug batteries out into the field. Instead, this 0.10-joule output energizer electrifies up 5 miles of vegetation-free fencing -- that's enough to keep your animals in and, when properly designed, small predators and wildlife out. Use this American FarmWorks charger to manage horses, cattle, pigs and pets in the most remote locations with steel wire or poly fencing. Prior to use, be sure to charge the energizer by turning it to the off position and leaving it in the sun for 48 hours.

Reviews

American FarmWorks 5-Mile Solar Low Impedance Charger, ESP5M-AFW is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 993.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from It doesn't work These chargers do not work well. They will blink fence OK but fence volt checker shows it is not. They have little volts when it does read, they stop working completely just after warranty is over. Pay a bit more and you won't have to buy one every 9 months to a year! They are horrible

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertised, at least, so far This was installed to power a short three-wire electric fence. After about three days of exposure to the sun per the instructions, I turned on the power and it performed as advertised. It’s way too early to comment about the unit’s reliability since it’s only been in place for a couple of weeks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 5mile not enough Cows tore down wire with no issues. Only produced 4.6 volts with only 500ft of wire

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No power/shock whatsoever, but a better product Terrible product had almost no zap and was charging out in the sun for a full week before I built the pen. The grounding rod was deep 4.5-5 ft and The ground was moist. All connections made correctly and it just didn’t have any power. Here are pictures of the pig pen and it’s not exactly large 2 wires in a 50x30 pen. TSC was great and took it back no issues as I’m always buying from them.

Questions & Answers

How many lines of output can be connected to this unit? I'm needing to run two lines around a 8 ft fence, one at top, one at bottom, to keep my deer in and keep predators out, mostly coyotes. Perimeter is approx. 1/2 mile.

Asked by: Bigdeerman
This energizer can power up to 5 miles of bare fence wire. Keep in mind that fencing setups can vary and that the voltage output seen on a fence is determined by many factors such as wire type, length of fence, grounding, etc. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-ZAREBA (1-855-592-7322) for additional assistance.

"Prior to use, be sure to charge the energizer by turning it ON and leaving it in the sun for 48 hours.". Then in Q&A you say to turn it OFF. Which is it???

Asked by: Gretch1
The unit should be in the off position for 3-4 full sunny days for a full charge. We are in the process of updating the information above.

can you test the fence charger with a regular volt-meter?

Asked by: henleydogg
We recommend using a fence tester to test the energizer, fence line and grounding. A volt meter will not provide accurate results.

Does the 5 miles mean the length if wire you can electrify? So if I wanted to electrify closer to thr ground and the next level up do I need to double the amount I need? I'm trying to keep racoons from destroying everything.

Asked by: Dirty birdy
The mile rating is for the total length of wire that will be electrified.

I have a Great Dane we’re trying to keep in the existing wood fence we currently have. Would this product be enough or too much for a dog?

Asked by: Jhaun0211
Electric fencing is not recommended for dogs under 15 lbs. If they are over that weight requirement, this charger would be fine for a dog.
