Does 4Health duck and potato food contain any Taurine? I am reading a lot on this definiency and it is worrying me since this is the only food we feed our Sammi.Thank You

Asked by: Normill
The FDA is investigating a previously unknown but potential link between a condition called DCM, or dilated cardiomyopathy, and dog foods containing peas, lentils, other legumes or potatoes as main ingredients (primarily grain-free). Because taurine deficiency can be associated with DCM, a possible link between diet and the diagnosis is being explored. Taurine has not been recognized as an essential ingredient in dog food. All 4health formulas that are grain-free diets are supplemented with taurine. Our priority is to provide all pets with quality, safe food that meets all federal and state regulatory guidelines.

I have read multiple reviews of this food on several sites, because I am slowly switching my dogs to this product. My concern is that some reviews have been about some dogs developing bloody stools and diarrhea. Can you comment on this please.

Asked by: taffytoo52
Dietary intolerances can certainly cause digestive upset, leading to vomiting and/or diarrhea. However, if your pet is not tolerating something in their regular diet, you would expect to see signs of digestive upset everyday, not every once in a while. For dogs that have occasional diarrhea, the most likely culprit is something they ate that was not part of their regular diet. This could be a treat or it could be something tasty that they found in the yard or on your walk around the neighborhood. It is nearly impossible to prevent a dog from eating something that they shouldn’t. Some dogs do this very infrequently but other dogs may do this on a daily basis. If the diarrhea occurs every time you feed a certain type of treat or a certain type of people food, try stopping this and see if the problem persists.

Does all 4 health grain free contain taurine? If so why is it not listed on the label

Asked by: Eben
Due to recent findings that some dogs have a genetic predilection for not being able to synthesize taurine from the precursors, we have added taurine to all of our grain free diets. This change occurred prior to the FDA issuing their statement. While products in circulation already contain the supplemental taurine, we are updating our packaging to reflect that.

My vet advised me to start using duck or venison dog food due to food allergies causing skin itching. Are the products free of beef and chicken products?

Asked by: Melissa23
4Health Grain-Free Duck and Potato contains no other animal protein sources other than Duck. Chicken fat is an ingredient, but it is typically well-tolerated by animals with chicken allergies, as it has been purified to remove the chicken protein, which is trigger for allergic responses.
