What is the carb level for this food. And what is the carb level "as fed" for copper. One last question has their been any recalls on this food. What was it and when did it occur?

Asked by: Pappachi
The 4health Chicken & Rice Formula contains 37.7% of carbohydrates and 15 mg/kg of copper based on an as fed basis of a typical analysis of the formula. The voluntary recall was in 2012, due to potential cross contamination of salmonella. Our manufacturing processes adhere to stringent and scientifically advanced food safety protocols. We constantly monitor and test our raw materials, production environment, processes and finished products. By continuously improving performance with the latest advancements in science and technology, we have developed a comprehensive food safety system that guides our processes and ensures the quality and safety of our products.

Let me make my last question a bit clearer. My 50lb dog turned one, was eating puppy chow (5 cups per day) which I divided into 2 feedings. This 4Health says around 2 - 2 3/4 cups daily. Big difference; is this right? If so, how many feedings?

Asked by: Scoobs
As puppies get older, their growth rates slow and their nutritional requirements decrease, so less food is needed. It is especially important for large breed puppies not to become overweight and put extra stress on their joints.

Thank you so much for your help! At one year of age, should I have purchased a puppy formula instead?

Asked by: Scoobs
At one year of age, we recommend checking with your pup’s Veterinarian to see if they recommend an appropriate time to transition to adult food. Some pups (typically large and giant breeds) may continue to benefit from a puppy formula until 18 months of two years of age. As long as your pup is at least one year old, if you have already transitioned to an adult food and it is working well, there would be no need to transition back to a puppy formula.

The chicken & rice formula says to feed between 2 and 2 3/4 cups a day when the old brand of food we were using was 5 cups per day. Did I read that right? My dog is one year old and a bit over 50lbs. Do I split that up in 2 feedings like I do currently?

Asked by: Scoobs
Per the feeding guide, a dog weighing between 40 and 60 pounds would receive approximately 2 to 2 ¾ cups of food daily. This amount may be adjusted up or down according to their physical activity and may be split into any number of meals according to what works best for your pet.

What percentage of protien comes from meat in this product? Also, is there a way to get the meat percentage and ca and ph levels for all your formulas so I can compare? Considering switching to this food, but none of the formulas list these 3.

Asked by: Agios11
79% of animal protein. The levels below are based on an as fed basis of a typical analysis of the formula. Please check your email for additional information.

Where do you get the meat that you use in your dog food? I have heard some companies use disease, road Kill or poor quality meat.

Asked by: Jackie 65
Our ingredients are the same grade and quality and come from the same sources used for human food applications. However, they are not considered "human-grade". The term "human-grade" does not have a place in the pet food industry. Legally, for a meat to be "human-grade", it must be processed in a human-grade facility. Pet food facilities are not human-grade, rather, they are ALL feed grade. By law, as soon as meat, even "human-grade" meat, is shipped to a pet food facility it becomes "feed-grade". This doesn't change the quality of the meat; but, it does change its legal definition. All animals used as protein sources in our products are processed and slaughtered according to USDA standards and regulations. USDA Officials are onsite visually monitoring the process.
