Is it okay for sheep

Asked by: pjmadrid
It is not recommended for sheep because this product contains supplemental copper. The TSC General Purpose 16% “All-Natural” 125# Tub is recommended. Sheep utilize it more efficiently and it contains no supplemental copper.

can these tubs be fed to dairy cattle

Asked by: jeff cronin
No, there are certain restrictions and guidelines regarding Selenium levels in milk used for human consumption, and this product should not be fed to lactating dairy cattle.Due to the Selenium content in the formula, this product is only labeled for all classes of beef cattle and for “non-lactating” dairy heifers (Livestock does require Selenium at certain levels).

Will this prevent grass tetany?

Asked by: RTRanch
Grass Tetany is a challenge to treat during the spring when forages are growing rapidly and the forage is high in moisture. A cow’s normal maintenance requirement for magnesium is 13-15 g per head per day. Cows in heavy lactation or in late gestation are the most susceptible to grass tetany. Cows need to have about 0.2-0.25% magnesium in the complete diet on a dry matter basis. Cows will consume 2.25-2.5% of their body weight in dry matter every day. For a 1200 lb cow this equates to 27-30 lbs of dry matter every day. These cows will need about 27.24 g of magnesium every day. Depending on the cow and the stage of lactation this requirement could be as high as 36 g/hd/d. The products we manufacture do contain a significant amount of magnesium but consumption of the products at a high enough rate is a generally a challenge during the spring. The magnesium level in the tubs is 2.0-2.5%. At a 2 lb feeding rate using 2.0 and 2.5% magnesium this provides 18.2-22.7 g of magnesium per head per day. This level is less than what is needed by lactating beef cattle for magnrsium.

I have a tub that has set for a while. Do these go bad and become dangerous to give to cattle? Do they have an expiration date / limited shelf life?

Asked by: chrisu
This product will not be deemed “Unsafe”. The extended shelf life is between 5-6 Months plus, after this period the product's appearance will start to dry out on the surface. To “Re- Fresh” the surface of our Protein Tub “spray” Pam Cooking Spray, or Paint Cooking Oil liberally on the top, and allow it to “Soak in” This is nothing more than Vegetable Oil, which is already built into the Product Formula.
