grandmas stuffing

Grandma Anna’s Stuffing

“My grandma made this stuffing every Thanksgiving and it is mouth-watering,” writes Susan Becker, of Caro, Mich. “Since she has been unable to make it, my mother makes it, and now I make it. Anyone who eats it also makes it, because they always ask for the recipe. Always.”

  • 1½ cups boiling water
  • ½ cup butter or margarine
  • ½ medium onion, minced
  • 12 cups bread crumbs loosely packed (small pieces)
  • ¼ tsp. pepper
  • 1½ tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. poultry seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp. minced parsley (fresh or canned)
  • 1 lb. ground sausage, browned and drained

Combine boiling water, butter, and onion and simmer 5 minutes.

Place bread crumbs in large bowl and add water, butter, and onion mixture.

Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly.

Stuff into an 8- to 10-lb. turkey or bake separately in a 9x13 pan at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

Serves 10-12.
