    Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies

    "For years, I've been making Christmas cookie boxes for friends during the holidays and these have become a requested favorite," writes Julie. "Of course, I'm also a big fan of chocolate mixed with citrus so naturally, they're a favorite of mine, too!"


    • ½ cup butter or margarine
    • ½ cup shortening
    • 1 cup sugar
    • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 tsp. vanilla
    • 1 egg
    • 1 Tbsp. grated orange peel
    • 2¾ cups unsifted all-purpose flour
    • ½ tsp. baking soda
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • ¼ cup orange juice
    • 1¼ cups semisweet chocolate mini chips


    Cream butter or margarine, shortening, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add egg and orange peel; blend well. Combine separately flour, baking soda, and salt; add alternately with orange juice to creamed mixture. Stir in mini chips. Chill dough about 1 hour. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and flatten with fork. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly. Remove from cookie sheet; cool on wire rack.

    Makes 7 dozen cookies.
