    Oatmeal Lace Cookies Recipe

    When Tiffany makes these cookies, she’s continuing a family tradition of at least six generations. “It is my favorite because it is so delicate and tasty,” she writes. “Not only can you eat them as cookies but crumble them up and use as ice cream toppings. I even like them when they get browner just before one would consider them too dark and burned. And, by the way, they burn easily.”


    • 1 stick butter
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 egg
    • ½ tsp. salt
    • 1 cup oatmeal
    • 2 scant tsp. flour
    • 1½ tsp. baking powder
    • 1 tsp. vanilla


    Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat butter until smooth. Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Chill for 1 hour. Place small amounts on foil-lined cookie sheet. Bake about 7 minutes. Watch closely; they burn easily. Remove foil from cookie sheet with cookies still on foil to cool. Then pull or lift with spatula from foil.
