    Homemade Macaroni and Cheese

    Sarah Beougher, of Newark, OH, has a tasty recipe for the ultimate comfort food.


    • 3 cups macaroni
    • 8 Tbsp. butter (divided)
    • 4 Tbsp. flour
    • 1½ cups milk
    • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
    • 1 cup Swiss cheese (shredded or slices)
    • ½ tsp. salt
    • ¼ tsp. pepper
    • 2 cups garlic & butter croutons (crushed)
    • 4 Tbsp. melted butter


    Cook macaroni until done to taste. Drain and pour into a greased 1½-quart baking pan and set aside. In a saucepan melt 4 Tbsp. butter. Once melted, gradually add flour and stir over medium heat until it's smooth and slightly browned. Add milk to the flour-butter mixture and bring to a boil. Cook 2 minutes stirring constantly. Reduce heat and add cheese, salt, and pepper. Once it's smooth, pour over macaroni. Stir around a little to make sure that cheese mixture coats all the macaroni. Sprinkle crushed croutons on top and pour melted butter evenly over the croutons. Bake uncovered at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
