    Great Wheat Bread Recipe

    "This recipe has been in the family for a long time," writes Doris. "Not only is this bread fast and easy to make, but it is also healthy and delicious."

    Ingredients

    • 4 tsp. dry yeast
    • 2 cups lukewarm water
    • 2 tsp. honey
    • 5 cups whole wheat flour
    • 3 Tbsp. molasses
    • ½ Tbsp. salt
    •  cup wheat germ
    • ½ Tbsp. butter, softened
    • 1 Tbsp. sesame seeds

    Directions

    Sprinkle yeast over  cup lukewarm water. Add honey. Leave to "work" while preparing the dough. Warm whole wheat flour by placing it in a 250-degree oven for 20 minutes.

    Combine molasses with  cup lukewarm water. Combine yeast mixture with molasses mixture and stir this into the warmed flour. Turn oven to 400 degrees so it will be preheated. Add salt, wheat germ and the remaining 1 cups lukewarm water to the mixture. Dough will be sticky. Grease or spray with cooking oil a loaf pan (9x5x2/4). Turn dough into the pan. Smooth top, spread softened butter, and sprinkle sesame seeds over. Let rise to top of pan. Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until crust is brown and sides are firm. Let cool on rack for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely before slicing.
