Fresh Guacamole

Submitted by Teresa Blackburn, of Nashville, TN

Orange juice is what sets Teresa's guacamole recipe apart from the pack. "The orange juice just adds the extra little 'something' to it," she says. "It's the extra-special ingredient."

  • 4 ripe avocados, peeled and diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice of ½ orange
  • Juice of 1 lime or lemon
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 small sweet pepper, minced
  • ½ small red onion minced
  • ½ tsp hot sauce, or to taste
  • Salt and pepper generously

Combine all ingredients in a glass bowl and mash coarsely with a fork. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let flavors combine. Before storing, squeeze lemon or lime over the top of guacamole and press plastic wrap onto the top of the guacamole to preserve color and freshness. Then refrigerate. Serve with tortilla chips.
