    French Dressing Recipe

Submitted by James Wilmoth, Tomball, TX

James got this recipe more than 20 years ago from a New Zealand friend. Over the years, he’s tweaked it to his own taste, and it’s become a family favorite, as a dressing and as a grilling sauce. Wilmoth encourages others to tweak it, as well. “If you like things hot,” he suggests, “add a little cayenne red pepper.”

    • 1 cup ketchup
    • 1 cup olive oil
    • Juice of one lemon
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • 1 tsp. black pepper
    • 1 tsp. garlic powder
    • 1 tsp. paprika
    •  tsp. red pepper
    • ¼ to ½ tsp. cream of tartar
    • 1 cup sugar (or to taste)
    • 1 cup vinegar (or to taste)

Mix first nine ingredients together until well blended. Add sugar and vinegar in small amounts, tasting as you go, to achieve the taste you like best. Makes about 1 quart.
