    Cherry Winks Recipe

    "This cookie recipe is the absolute favorite of my children, family, and friends of over 30+ years," writes Karen. "When the children were young, they loved taking part in mixing up the mixture and rolling the bars in the wax paper to refrigerate. I've given them in gift baskets already cooked, as well as in cold rolls, just as you would see a cold roll of cookies in the store," she says. "Adding some teas or coffees makes a delightful winter's gift."


    • 2 eggs
    • 2 cups brown sugar
    • 3½ cups flour
    • 1 tsp. baking powder
    • 1 tsp. baking soda
    • 1 tsp. cinnamon
    • 1 tsp. vanilla
    • Candied cherries (amount to your liking)
    • Chopped nuts (pecans seem to be the best)


    Mix butter, eggs, brown sugar, and flour. Add baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, vanilla, cherries, and nuts. Roll in 1-inch rolls in wax paper, and keep in refrigerator until ready to cook. When you're ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Slice in 1-inch pieces and place on ungreased, nonstick cookie sheet, and bake for 12 minutes, or until brown. Cool for 5 minutes.
