Caramel Apple Brownies

It's hard to believe that anything could improve the taste of these brownies, but Rose has a suggestion: "They're great with ice cream," she writes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 2-3 apples (peeled, cored, and chopped)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • ¼-½ cup caramel (optional)

Directions

Sift together dry ingredients; set aside. Mix butter, sugar, and eggs together; then mix in apples and nuts. Fold dry ingredients into apple mixture. Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Drop spoonfuls of caramel on top and drag a fork or knife through. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Cool and serve.
