Brown Paper Bag Apple Pie

Submitted by Nancy Johnsen, of Nashville, TN

When Nancy wants to make this family favorite, she must make a point of requesting paper bags — not the usual plastic — when she shops at the grocery store.

Not only does the paper bag keep the pie moist, but it also makes it easy to pack.

Ingredients

Topping

  • 1 stick margarine, softened
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Pie Filling

  • 4-6 apples, cored, peeled, and diced
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbs. flour
  • Cinnamon (to preferred taste)

Directions

Mix the topping ingredients together. Put into the refrigerator to firm up so that when you put it on the pie it will be crumbly.

Mix pie ingredients and place into an unbaked deep-dish piecrust. Place topping ingredients on the pie and put into a brown paper bag and seal with paper clips. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
