Bourbon Fruit Christmas Cookies

Submitted by Dossie Harris, Seminole, TX

Dossie has been making her Bourbon Fruit Christmas cookies for nearly 30 years. "All my family loves them, and they make nice gifts for your friends," she says. "Last year, my daughter came to my house to make these cookies. We made a double batch for her to use as gifts."

During your holiday baking, see if these time-tested favorites don't find a permanent place in your recipe box.

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. allspice
  • ½ Tbs. milk
  • ½ tsp. soda
  • 1 lb. chopped dates
  • 1 lb. chopped pecans
  • ½ lb. candied cherries
  • ½ lb. candied pineapple
  • ½ cup good bourbon

Cream sugar and butter, add well-beaten eggs and spices, then combine the milk in which you have mixed the soda. Put 1 cup of flour over the chopped fruit and mix well. Put remaining flour over the nuts and mix. Add fruit and nuts to creamed mixture. Add bourbon last. Mix well. Use a teaspoon to form a small mound on a lightly greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.

Makes about eight dozen.
