Mulch Your Leaves into Your Lawn

If you have big trees in your lawn that give you a lot of work in the fall, we have great news! Instead of raking and blowing the leaves this year, try this: mulch them with your lawn mower and spread Scotts® Turf Builder® Winter Guard®. This will improve your soil and give it extra nutrients.

Use Your Mower to Chop Leaves

First, remove the grass catcher from your push mower or your riding mower. As you mow your lawn, mow over the leaves until they are dime-size pieces. You should see about half an inch of grass through the mulched leaves. Then, microbes and worms take over by recycling the leaves back into the soil. Any kind of rotary-action mower will work on any leaf-mulching job. You may be surprised that you can mulch up to 18 inches of leaf clutter - sure beats raking!

Speed Up the Process by Feeding Your Lawn

After mulching your leaves, using a turf builder helps break down your leaves faster, thereby helping the microbes do a better job recycling the leaves and improving your lawn.

    Great Springtime Results and Benefits

In the spring, you'll notice your leaf litter from the fall is gone, and your grass is greener than last year. You are also reducing your landfills and the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere when leaves and bags are burned. Mulching leaves simply recycles a natural resource, giving you richer soil for free.
